Rake aboot 4,936
Take it back, The job is expected to have been done to a good standard using suitable parts . And is expected to last for an acceptable time, 250 miles is not If the belt turns out to have been faulty, this is the garages fault and responsability not yours. You never provided the belt. They sold you the work so they are liable for it. Go back, and stand yer ground with them. ATB

Born Hunter 17,965
Cheers fellas. I'll try to be diplomatic and keep my cool, lol. Just need to know my legal rights before speaking to them so I actually have something to back it up with. The link wxm put up seems very usefull and I'll certainly have it to hand when on the phone in the morning.
fazza123 517
Id ring another garage first then you have an idea of what they might say to you! I think youve got a very good case as long as your right with them. Good luck
RossM 8,149
Usually 12 mths parts warranty and 3mths labour warranty, is it petrol or diesel engine and what sort of speed were you doing? Think it's safe to say there will be some valve damage though,

It's a diesel engine and I had just come off of the A1 come down the slip road and onto the round-a-bout doing probably 20mph when it went.

Unless something has interfered with the belt, for instance something kicked up, or alternator belt snapped, smashed timing cover and caused timing to jump, it's safe to say it's either a parts failure or incompetent fitting/negligence on the technicians part that has caused the problem so the garage is liable for the full repair, check your receipt should tell you the warranty you have on the repair. secretagentmole 1,701
All the garage will probably say is it must of been a faulty belt take it up with the belt manufacturer . No they have to take it up with the belt manufacturer, they fitted the part, they selected the part, their damned problem, check under the Sales of Goods and Services Act! They are responsible for the parts they have supplied!
