gnasher16 31,602
Ive never understood the Tyson/Ali argument....what possible reason is there to think Tyson would have stood a chance......All Tyson had going for him was a knockout punch.....a knockout punch that was nowhere near as hard as Foremans,Ron Lyles or probably the hardest puncher in heavyweight history Earnie Shavers....and none of them could knock Ali out ! Ali would have played with him,Ali always found a way to win Tyson couldnt do that .......If it took Holyfield 3 rounds to frustrate him into quitting can you imagine how frustrated Ali would have had him ! Gnasher now you're talking sense. Ali had a tremendous will to win and was literally willing to put his life on the line to win.( Check out his third fight with the late great Joe Frazier.) Tyson was good at beating people up. When he was in a genuine fight he cracked up. Tyson lacked balls imho. Ali was all courage in and out of the ring. I am very surprised he never copped a bullet when he was making speeches criticising America's war in Vietnam. Ali was the greatest heavyweight of all time imho. But also he was a great man. A true hero. PS Joe Frazier would have demolished Tyson at his peak as would a lot of the seventies heavyweights. I think when Tyson came on the scene he reinvigorated heavyweight boxing by his exciting style. But heavyweight boxing was in a bad way then as it is now. I reckon Lennox Lewis has been the only recent heavyweight who could have lived with the likes of Foreman, Frazier, Shavers, Norton, Lyle and Ali. I honestly believe Tyson would only have been able to make a living as a sparring partner or journeyman if he had been boxing in the seventies.
