A quick shine in the back field.

Recommended Posts

As it's christmas day, there wasn't much chance to get out with the dog of ferrets today! But on the upside i did have a mighty fine christmas lunch

So I decided to have a quick shine in one of the fields next to the house earlier, to give the dog a chance to stretch his legs, and me something to do before Dr Who came on the t.v

As i came up to the gate, i shone the lamp over, and there was a rabbit sat up the field by the hedge, near an old barn. I let the dog go through the gates bars and lit up the rabbit, he was off like a rocket, with the dog on his tail, eating up the ground. The dog turned him away from the fence and it was looking good, but the rabbit slipped under the foundations of the old barn, before he could strike at it.

Dog back on the slip and i moved on a bit, spotting another rabbit sitting off ahead, again, by the fence line. It started to head away from us, up the fence line, but not at full pace, and i let the dog go, he sprang forward, eating up the distance. Just as it was about to disappear out of the beam, over a slight rise, the dog hit the accelerator and levelled with it, turning it into the fence, and as it tried to turn back, he nailed it, and brought it back well.

With the dog back at my side, i continued around the edge of the field, and just as i got toward the gate back out, i cast the lamp off to one side and caught sight of a movement heading behind me, i turned around and spotted a bunny, now a good way off, flying toward the fence line i was stood one. Off went the dog, straight up the fence, cutting off the rabbit from it's destination. The rabbit turned parallel with the fence and was flying toward me, straight up the beam, with the dog running behind it, but to one side, blocking it from the fence, as it got close to where i was standing, the dog put in a great dive and struck for the rabbit as he tumbled, coming up running, with the rabbit in his mouth, again bringing it back to me.

And that was that, and i went home to watch Dr Who! Not a huge bag, but a good 15 mins out, and a couple of enjoyable runs to watch!

Merry Christmas all!

Not the best photos.

Cheers everyone, and i hope christmas is treating you well!

Trig - considering that he hasn't done much of it, he's taking to it well, and starting to impress me  He's turning into quite a versitile little dog, despite all the time in sick bay  Daytime hunting is his real forte, but he might make a lamp dog yet

Ferretman - yes it is
