The Duncan 802 Posted December 17, 2011 Report Share Posted December 17, 2011 I'm afraid to say, I am not. Wife keeps asking me if I'm feeling christmassy. Feeling pressured to give a positive response. Well, my kids are 16 and 11 so instead of a letter to Santa its a list of Argos item numbers and costs. Money isn't exactly crash hot at the mo (but there's millions worse off I guess) and Xmas to me lately represents more financial pressure and pointless commercialism. When i was a kid, you put 'radio controlled car' on your wish list and would be surprised at whatever turned up. It was magic, exciting and wonderful. Where's the romantic notion of surprise when you know the precise item that is going to turn up? I do like the Christmas food I have to admit and a bottle of Glenmorangie off 'the kids'. Happily there is an upside I realised the other day that I have pretty much everything I want: Wife asks "what would you like for Xmas?". I honestly couldn't think of anything. Maybe a romp with a slim, fit bird? Materially, I reckon I must be pretty well off then. But i look forward more to time with family, and time away from the family out in the fields doing what I love. How are the rest of my hunting cohorts feeling during the festive season? It's not even about Christianity if we're honest though is it? Ultimately it was a celebration of the winter solstice, a pagan tradition (the original British religion) which the Christians adopted when they arrived. It's all about the wee man now, last year he was just a baby but now he's almost 2 he's starting to know what's what. I'll enjoy Xmas day at my dads, a wee drink with the auld git and then back home boxing day with a car packed full of kids Xmas presents he won't even touch! Got him a living room full if presents last year, whole family spent ££££ on him and he sat and played with the boxes for weeks! I'm away from all my family and so is the other half so I can't nip around whenever I feel. Going for a wee trip down just before Xmas and then Xmas at my old mans who is the closest. I look forward to seeing the baby at my dads. He spoils him rotten. That's what grandparents are for! Your right, everything is motivated by money. Nobody wants to do anything unless it costs coin or they get something out of it. The few people that do things for newt/little and just want a thankyou are worth your time. Dreading the years to come when, like you said- the baby knows what he wants, the latest limited edition buzz lightyear toy etc and I end up camping outside toys r us and wrestling with other parents for one my old man done exactly that for me! 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Christmas is for children, and it should be made magical for them, but some people get them selves in stupid debt sometimes, Christmas can still be made magical without a great expense if it's explained in the right way to kids.. 2 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
