.22 pellets advice

Just got a BSA lightning xl .22.. and with it being a springer I don't know what pellets to get regarding weight and shape. I'm planning to do a bit of hunting and target practise. any advice would be great.

use round head pellets only for accuracy.

 

try some air arms diablos

 

or better yet get on ebay and search for .22 pellet packs

air arms field [a bit slow but lots of power] or rws superdome would be a good start .I have never tryed defiant in a 22 but in 177 they are very good in a lot of my spring guns .But for sure it has to be a domed pellet.

Try a few and see what is most accurate through your particular rifle. Choose some good quality pellets (AA field, RWS, H&N FTT Trophy etc) and see what groups best.

Remember that hitting the cranium is key, not hocum about penetration. Accuracy will give you clean kills with a brain shot.

if there was a single answer to this question half the posts from newbies would vanish, there is no real answer to this, every gun (and barrel) has it`s own preference, the only way is to get hold of several brands (and sizes sometimes) and test them, the only thing that may make life easier is if you put your rough location in your profile there may be someone close to you who could give you a selection to try for free

I have used the Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum, .22, 14.3 grain to great effect, seems to like BSA barrels as well, used them in a Super 10 and now an HW100! Good accuracy, great power delivery and good quality tins that mean you do not get many deformed pellets (have not found one unusable one yet)!

My BSA used to love RWS Superdomes, good little pellet that tend to work well in most springers.
