Is eating stuff alive is a tradition over there? The impression I got from both videos is that it was more a modern chef trying to do something new a bit like Hester whatever his name is over here.

 

Just because some nation has a tradition doesnt mean we have to automatically think its great, we can still have a negative opinion cant we? There are villages/areas in africa that 'excercise' evil spirits from children by cutting them, am sure that some circles would consider that a tradition. Should we pat them on the back and praise them for sticking to tradition.

 

This is tongue in cheek, as I dont personally believe that fish register pain in the same way that mammals do, its just that both these vids seem more about the novelty factor of eating something alive then anything else. I just basically dont see what prolonging anythings death in this way will add to the meal/taste or whatever

The only reason those ying-yang fish are served like that is to show the freshness of the meal,if you go to Londons china-town theres a chinese fishmonger who has a tank of live carp,all his fish,lobsters etc are uber-fresh.
