Is this way of working the hare, only confined to Saluki crosses? Or do other good hare dog crosses have this quality too? Pre ban.

Cheers,

Frank.

Frank.

Good question,my uncle had a collie cross just after the 2nd war that "fenced "hares, cutting them off from cover, but all the recent dogs that come to mind had a preponderance of Saluki blood in them,my own Dog out of Lucky is a good "goalkeeper",like his father, a dog that was known for this ,and threw it in some of his pups was January Jack,Joe the father of Lucky was another.

So Id say other crosses do do it too, but from the breding you have discribed, them dogs would be specialists at it. ;)

tyne the salukl cross boxes them well , some saluk crosses dont.ive had some run flat out for three minutes and catching in a greyhound fashion good night time dogs , and for local feilds but they would put to much in the first three courses ,to go longer were ive had five good courses localy with tyne sol etc, i dont do rakes of day light as it wouldnt be healthy for me law wise but done plenty before the ban , any way most dogs if run alot learn to run cunning some take till there pace goes otheres do it naturaly.

I have saluki lurchers , mine dont box hares , more up and at them pushing them around , Iv seen a good few dogs out of courfeilds Joe and they all seem to have that style of running , do you think it is down to the Saluki blood in the make up of the lurcher that makes them do this , mine only do it when the hare is trying to get into cover , and then its not often , i have watched a dog out of Joe and foxy run this year and he boxes them in the middle of the field , do you no the saluki blood in Joes make up ,,cheers

Getting the hare away from cover and out to the feild and turning it tighter in rings till its traped and then picked up by the dog. Its a good dog that can do this. ;)
