gnasher16 31,602 Posted November 20, 2011 Report Share Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Not really a big fan of the ufc stuff anymore but must admit that Shogun - Henderson fight was everything thats great about a good old fashioned straightener !..Fantastic strength and ability coupled with the best of physical and mental guts and desire.......certainly the best fight ive seen in years in the ufc......personally i thought Shogun should have got the decision but you cant argue when its that close....both men were a credit to their sport and their families. Hats if too the ref too, could quite have easily stopped it 'in' the 3rd but used his brains and let the fight continue and it will go down 'in' the record books as a classic. Ive always felt theres a flaw in the scoring of all the fight sports in that judges give no credit for the unquestionable gameness a fighter may show......guts/gameness is as much of a quality in a fighting man as punch power or silky skills are yet it go,s unrecognised.......that fella Shogun clearly lost the first half of the fight but won the second half leaving Henderson pretty much surviving towards the end.......same as in boxing in a 12 round fight if one fighter wins the first 6 rounds and the other fighter wins the last 6 rounds in my opinion the fighter who has taken a beating early on and comes back to dominate deserves the win......Shogun was still trying to win that fight having come back from the verge of defeat....in an even fight that fighting spirit should be recognised in my opinion. I agree...After watching that fight how do you rate it against boxing as a sport and does it annoy you that boxing is stopped for far less nowadays. I reckon some boxing bouts could have been crackers if left to continue for a few more rounds. It was a shame there had to be a loser in that main bout, both were true warriors and lived up to their leg ens status. was happy Wand got a W, he has had a rough couple of fights lately so pleased for him, his knees are still as devasatating as in his pride days. Yes i suppose that's correct. The same target over and over again getting punched silly. Its a very misunderstood debate.....boxing is a far more dangerous sport than mma,you only have to look at the recorded deaths/serious injuries in boxing to see that......that in itself is pretty self explannatory.......its the difference between getting hit hard 10 times ( mma ) or getting hit hard enough to make a dent but not to knock you out 500 times ( boxing )......getting sparked out is not dangerous,sure its no fun but the repetetive pummeling of the brain during a long hard boxing match cannot be compared to a flash knockout. That fight the other night was undoubtedly an exciting and hard fought contest.....but they are few and far between in mma regardless of the blood....nobody ever died of a cut eye or bloody nose......it will always be boxing for me,but occasionally ( like this fight we,re talking about ).....credit where its due both men earned their cheque that fight.
