time to put the price up ?

Recommended Posts

I chap i know (not really a friend as such but more a acquaintance ) asked me yesterday if i had got any spare rabbits as he had a pub to supply and no rabbits about . I told him that i made good use of all my rabbits and could sell or give to friends all i catch . I know a lot has been said on here about the price for rabbit but if two chickens for a fiver is considered cheap then rabbit should be at least £2.50 each after all we are all victim to price hikes when things are in short supply

theres a butcher a few miles from me who pays £4 gutted and skinned , and will take as many as you can get him ,

iam quids in this year

A long project I know, but I give portions of a really good, tasty rabbit stew to work colleagues and acquaintances to try. They seem to like it (an awful lot in some cases) and this can only go towards raising awareness and demand for them.

If everyone did it, I'm sure the market for wild bunny would increase.

Like I said; it's a long term project!

How much are gamebirds fetching these days at markets and butchers as my mates fed up of the local keeper dropping him them off as he says hed sooner give them away than piss about with the low price of game dealers.

Not exactly sure but i'd imagine there a pittance. Probably something ridiculous like 40p a brace............ :censored:

Last year round here it was 2 quid a brace,80p hen bird,1.20 for a cock.

Almost makes it worth while having a nocturnal trip out in the woods with an air rifle..... lol.

In all seriousness I think if they were fetching that price nationaly there would be a huge increase in poaching birds again! Wish I had an outlet at that price.

I was in Alcudia for 2 weeks hols recently and all the bunnies in the shops were spotless with no bruising at all. Can someone please explain how these ones are dispatched as ive done thousands in my day and even when throwing their neck there is always a wee bruise. So are these spanish rabbits farm reared and then gassed, They have then head left on so i could see that they hadnt been shot Just curious as to how they get the hop without any bruising..

I was getting £4.50 for a whole pheasant - oven ready and £5 a duck - again oven ready. We sold out every week. There is demand but its got to be presented right and packaged right. When you pay £1 a brace direct from shoots you need to add the value otherwise that's the price its going to stay. I say go figure because it seems expensive to me but then people paid it with no quibble. When you look in Waitrose and they are selling 2 pheasant breasts for £7 its bloody good value to buy a whole bird for less than a fiver. It is all about the economie3s of scale which is why there are only 5 large scale game processing plants int eh whole country. They have the monopoly and keep the prices down from the shoots and can process the birds for very little. the vast majority gets exported.

K9 delboy - gassed using Co2.
