watchman 256
Oh and for those that asked if I use a dog to mark, I do use one of my russells but haven't taken her this season so far as Iv been taking my pup out instead. But I may bring her, have to watch her though as if she can go down a hole she will which is a pain. id say Ofcoure ferrets know mate how do you think they find rabbits?iv had ferrets that wouldn't go down a hole if there wasn't anything in, so are you using a dog mate? Could the holes be empty? im fully aware of how they hunt just wanting to know their capabilities mate thats all Edited October 6, 2011 by watchman Quote Link to post

darbo 4,779
take your terrier that marks.try to find a small warren ie 4/5 holes that is occupied. enter the jill that knows the score. put the hob in right behind her. he should follow her in.try this it could spark him into working.it is essential when trying inexperienced ferrets/youngsters that you know warrens are occupied.if they kill in no matter.ferrets always enter to kill. its just the vast majority of the time the rabbits are too fast for them. ie bolts. max abell 198
All ferrets will work to a degree just some work a lot better than others All our jills work well but i do have a couple of exeptional workers and these are the only two we breed from if you want the best breed or buy from the best and this gives you a better chance of keeping good working stock why people chose to breed from any old ferret is beyond me Quote Link to post

BenjaminCadd 109
Yeah my big old hob will drag them out im, im not sure why he dose it? but even if a gill holds one down there i send him down and he will drag both the rabbit a gill out behind him, saves digging! But i always reward mine with the liver and kidneys as soon as i gut them so they aways seem keen to get down the warrens!. Quote Link to post
