PINNACLE 2,297
We see a lot of Buzzards, Kestrels and the odd Kite near us (Surrey) but this is new to me. by PINNACLE PHOTO LOG, on Flickr We had a Collared Dove killed and eaten in our garden about 2 weeks ago and I got a breif glimps of a very similar bird finishing it off before it saw me in the window and left. I took these two shots this weekend when I was out with the dogs and my kids about 3 miles away on one of the local commons. I spotted it a long way off, it moved very quickly, darted round a few trees before sitting on this branch. It had thin long wings and it did not hover like a Kestrel and looked bigger. It was very timid and we could not get close, these shots are 75% cropped at 300mm on a crop camera (480mm equiv) so sorry for the quality. You can enlarge if you click on them and it does not look ringed. My first thoughts was a Sparrow Hawk then a Hobby but we went to a show on Sunday where a Peregrine was being flown and it looked very similar in flight hence the question.
