undisputed 1,664
was out the other night just as it was getting dark. Not hunting just out with the camera and the dog. Now the area i live in runs adjacent and old estate. Up till about. 15yr ago it was teaming with game. There were grey partridge lapwings all sorts of aquatic life and more rabbits and hares than you could shake a stick at. Fast forward to present day no partridge, hares and most of the habatat has gone. The old coal bings were flattened, ponds were drained and many of the farmers have sold their land to developers and moved on....sign of the times i guess. This estate ran all the way from North Lanarkshire to Glasgow zoo, which incidently went a few years ago and is now a housing estate. We enjoyed a fair bit of sport before things took a turn for the worse. More and more young folk got dogs seasons were not respected and pretty soon the wildlife began to suffer. I spose farming or lack of it also played a part....the butterfly effect. The only species that appears to br thriving here are roe deer but even they are under threat. All the young lads have dirt bikes and quads and have ruined much of the feilds and taking your dog out for a walk is an event in itself. Broken bottles burt out cars and so much rubbish it looks like a landfill site. Pretty depressing and its only going to get worse. Theres a campaign ongoing called save our glen but the horse has already bolted. I give it ten yrs at most and it will be another industrial site. Anyway i've gone way of topic and depressed myself... The point i was trying to make is that there is still some small pockets where these deer survive but for how much longer... So much for progress. Just as i was heading back the dog took of on a line and while i was waiting a nice young roe sprang over the hill about 40yards in front of me. It stopped for a few seconds and i managed to fire of a few snaps. I'm pretty pleased with the results i'll put them up when i'm back home at the weekend. The roe bounced away and a slightly knackered lurcher came over the hill about 5minutes after it had gone. Sorry fof the long protracted story i'm old with a tendacy to ramble now. Ideation 8,217
Aye mate, you are right, we see it around here a lot, where you had family farms, the family cannot make it in farming any more, the kids move to the city, the farm is sold, to some yuppies who want to move out of the city and commute, they sell off the barns, to more yuppies, for very expensive barn conversions, the land is sold off to contract farmers, who eventually sell it to barret homes or tescos when they get the right price offered, and it goes on and on. Thing is farming is dead, unless your a millionare, you cannot even get your foot in the door. . . . . Very sad.

WILF 51,072
I wouldnt be so sure Si, there are plenty of good young lads growing up and being shown the right way of doing things. As long as there is wild places and game, lads will continue to hunt......

You not think the 2 young 12 year old lads that want to be up the field with a terrier rooting out rats and rabbit for the love of it will be seen any different from a useless 15 year old c*nt with a football head size dog who has no respect and wants to just kill for killings sake will be seen any different in the public eye ? me i think not ..times they are a changing and we are all tarred with the same brush ..maybe different for us *older* guys who can maybe garner respect ..the youth of today is fooked in the field IMO

undisputed 1,664
The thing that gets me is that places I walked freely at one time are now closed to me. As soon as a lamp goes on they're on the phone and there's a chopper in the air

Its how you conduct yourself that matters and that will always shine through in the end.
