Time wasters , or are they ???

Recommended Posts

No mate, I do not think anyone who has taken the time effort and cost to come and view the pups without taking one are messers. If I went to view and didn't fancy the litter, for whatever reason, I would not purchase, end of!!

The messers are the people who make a million calls, want to know the in's and outs of just about everything, over and over, then assure you they are gonna be there and don't bother!

Worse still, are the helmets who take a pup with all the best intentions, only to bring it back a few days later with some lame excuse.

I have only bred two litters in my life, one was unplanned, when I realised a bitch i'd bought in was already pregnant, and I got messers aplenty with both litters..!

i know what you mean regards phone calls, i bred a litter of bullmastiffs in the 80s. Some did phone 4-5 times regards a pup, and i can understand that some didnt take it any further. But some were right prats, called 3-6 days none stop and i think just for somthing to do.! it put me off breeding any dog after that,

Out of curiosity Ray, what size were the bullmastiffs...........................

bitch 25in dog was 27in , 10 pups . They were good dogs with good hips,+agile not like whats round to day. Thats when went got into lurchers 80s, great dogs never looked back

So they have changed even in such a short period of time :icon_eek: Oh well your pup has probably got more fire than any bullmastiff bred in the last 100 years

if ye ask me id say more breeders are at the messing game than the buyers.....

think about it..... what has a buyer got to gain bye messing????? not a lot,

what has a breeder got to gain by messing????? a pocket full a cash......

we al know that there are some twisted folk that love nowt more than to pretend to know what they talking about, an fone breeders all time, for nowt more than a chat lol

but what about the breeders, who are breeding off young/untested/unfit dogs, the breeders who tell lies to try an get another sale, the breeders that keep dogs/pups in shite states.......?????

if ye realy have to breed, then atleast do it right, imo its the breeders that have ruined the dog world, not the guys that are picky an choosey about what the spend there cash on ;)

your right Si, i saw lot of bullmastiffs over the years, and some males were big heavy feckers, but Tod as more raw power+strenght than any bullmastiff ive ever seen plus will be 100 times fitter+healthy, i think any lurcher x are the best dog you can ever have work+pet

the worst thing when you are selling anything at all is when you get some one who makes an appointment to come and view and sometimes even rings to say they are on the way and still they dont turn up and no phone call to explain and dont answer your calls. if someone comes all the way to see what your selling and doesnt want to part with the cash its probably because there is something they dont like and are just too polite to tell you, not messers.

Yaknow ray this his a good topic ,what i will say timewasters myself and family member booked 2 whippet pups from norwich 7 maybe 8 yrs back.sent deposits has was asked .the trip was 10hour round tripon arrivalwas greeted with the most unexpected ,to say we departed with just the one would have been none but with a three hundred deposit covering the pups was not sure how we stood ,wont go in to details but the shock on the vendours face was worth the trip .300 two any one his big bucks two us 2weeks wage ,what i would say to any one going for a puppy try two do some home work if poss on the seller .home bred pups by those with work in mind and not monetary gains are allways a better bet atb folksbunnys.

I've walked away from a few litter's over the year's. If they are not what you expected or nothing take's your eye then leave them where they are. No point in taking one for the sake of it and not being 100% happy with it even before you get home.

There as been the odd occassion where I've nearly taken one thru pity for the poor thing more than anything else . . . It work's both way's imo about being messer's / time waster's when youve spoken to folk down the phone and there building these pup's up as the best thing's since sliced bread, then when you get there to see the litter and you think . . . and sometime's say "That ain't the super litter that you described on the phone is it "

Time waster's are just folk that arrange to visit a litter and never turn up without even letting you know that they have changed there mind's, leaving you hanging around waiting for them ! !

Its a tricky biz both ways these days...in the good old days a mate gave you a pup from his own working stock..end of..you gave him a few quid for food etc etc and all you worried about was paying for the Jabs at the vets... then some daft bugger wrote a few books..that's when it all went wrong.

Nowadays you cant even trust the stranger on the other end of the phone..he might only be coming to look at your pups to suss out your place and come back at a later date to rob you of your pride and joy.

But also as a buyer you cant always trust a stranger to sell you a dog that is what it says on the label..too many bullshitters and name dropping Know -it-all armchair poachers out there these days.they tell some eager beaver that the pup is bred this way or that and that they,ll make a pre -determined size...and the daft buggers will fall for any old line of shite they are given.

If i wanted a pup these days i would breed my own for myself and if a mate or 2 wanted one i would keep a couple back for them ,but that's all.

I would hate to think i had to sell a pup to some of the idiots that are around this game today...for every decent genuine bloke like many of the ones on this site there is also a rather large number of tosspots.. LOL. its the poor dogs i feel sorry for.

  your well correct there my friend arm chair poachers did make me laugh ,some people have more stories than the bible and are prone for name dropping and the world is full of messers and timewasters when your selling anything ,cars ,dogs ,etc etc

Drove 200 miles to see a litter of "working beddie pups" both parents doing the business week in week out and available to view, got there an hour earlier than i said i would, sire nowhere to be seen, dam in kennel out the way which i couldn't get to see as his other dogs "would have me", pup brought out and put down on the grass and just froze..........never been out it's bed in 7 weeks of it's life!! Totally withdrew into itself, other pup that "was" available had been sold over the phone so he didn't want to show me it until i insisted. Took pup back into it's bed where it felt secure and the state they were kept in was a disgrace, dark shed stinking of shit with no natural light, mother of the pups was in a cage next to them and look dreadful to say the least. Other dogs didn't "have me" at all and were paddling in shit aswell......................and he had the cheek to call me a messer!!

Word of advice..........always turn up early and catch them unawares before they try and hide anything

Time wasters are the folk who ring up lots, ask lots of q's, arrange to come and see the pups, and then just fall off the face of the earth and never contact you again, or folk that ask you to keep a pup back as they will be up in a week etc, and then just never phone you again.

Anyone, has the write to ask questions, and change their minds, but it's how you conduct your self when you do it, like if you decide the litter is not for you, just say that and leave, not make a bunch of false promises to the persons face.

Mine you i'm sure plenty of folk have been to see some terrible pups, have said 'i'm not anting one' then been labelled a 'messer' by the idiot trying to make the sale.

tbh in the few litters i have bred havnt really had any messers visit and not buy a pup . had a few over the phone though. the last litter i bred 17 months ago 2 chaps came to buy a pup and went away with 2 one each they said mine was the third litter they had been to see and the only litter that was socialised and well handled also said the pups were stronger than other litters same age. now did the owners of the other litters label these messers when if fact they were far from it just fussy what they bought . .

i travelled 6 hour round trip to see a litter a few years ago. i knew the sire of the litter as i bred him.

talking on the phone a few days before the breeder bigged these pups up no end.

when i got there these pups were kept in a cage with no bedding they were pot bellied full of worms the parents didnt look much better. so home i went with a total different view of these so called lurcher folk. found out later that these people sold the pups for £200 each. atb dai

as you know bird from our conversations on the phone I travelled 320 miles one way with a mate took 5 and a half hours one way from south Wales to Scottish boarder. only to look at a dog for a mate. from the off we told the bloke if we wernt happy when we viewed him we wouldn't be bringing him back regardless how far we travelled, I think if your straight up front then you won't be a messer but If you call after call and say just don't turn up without any phone call then I see that as a messer
