jasper65 6
Got ourselves some Rhodies x Light Sussex eggs off ebay <12 off> a few weeks back, stuck them in the inc and weighed them down while Incubating, it turned out 12 was fertile and thankfully I ended up getting 12 out on the 13th. the downer is one was very runty and doomed to die which is now has, on the plus side the other 11 are doing fine . all the eggs was running too wet and all needed drying out more! no water was placed in the incubator as usual as the outside Humidity is plenty enough round here, I finally ended up Holeing all the eggs with around 8 days to go to dry them out. Just proves the eggs travel ok if they are packed well from ebay Jasp

jasper65 6
cheers all anyone know how to sex these? I read that the cockerals should be yellow and the Hens should be Buff . the thing is some are Yellow and some are a light rusty colour and some are just dark along the back. the last thing I want to do is do away with the wrong sex and end up with all cockerals..... Hi, If these are just ordanary chicks, your not going to be able to sex the chicks until they are at least 8 weeks old. At 8 weeks old, the young male's comb will start to get more redder, and grow slighly faster than a young pullet. Pullets combs are gernerally a yellow/buff colour. Also around this time, young males have got longer legs, giving them a more upright posture. As for a above methods, The colour of the chicks unless sex linked breeds has no effect on sexes! You can only measure wing feather lengths on broiler breeder chicks, no other breeds! You can not vent sex chicks, only ducklings and gosling! Hardfeather 56
Rhode x sussex are sex linked,a rhode male x a light sussex female will give you white male chicks and buff or brown female chicks but as you don't know exactly what the parents were Jasper I'd sit tight with them for now, well done on your hatch
