same as the above plenty of water 24/7, and take the dogs out late in the day 9.30pm onwards just short walks, no point in getting to hot with long walks, rest them in summer, we all need to recharge the batteries

for the ferrets i have herd of a neat trick but never tried it....... get a large flat smooth boulder from a river or the sea,,,, put it in a feezer over night,,,, then put it in the hutch....apparantly they lie on it or next to it...... like i say ive never treid it,,, and i dont know how long it stays cold,,, but it sounds a good idea

Easier to put coke bottles of water in the freezer over night: don't fill them too full! Then put in the hutch during the day. I would imagine the stone stays cold longer though. Just like stones heated in a fire can boil water.

if your out in hot weather water under the chest keeps the dogs cool as there able to store it an stay at a cool temp.

Also....... spray or dribble cold water down the insides of the hind legs: this is where the big blood vessels are just beneath the skin: cool those vessels and the blood running through them and the cooled blood is circulated through the rest of the body, reducing the temperature of the internal organs.

I also hang white sheets (reflects the sun's rays) in front of kennels and hutches, and spray with cold water at regular intervals.

try puttin a icepack in for the ferrets with a towel over it so they can lay about on it if they get too warm.. and for the dogs walk them early in the morning and last thing at night... i have been letting mine swim about in the river.. and make sure they have plenty of water.

I've got three kelpies so I tend to get the opposite problem: mine spend all day trying to find the hottest place in the garden or run to lie in. When it's eventually hot enough to melt tarmac they occasionaly seek some shade in the kennel. Daft buggers!

I hasten to add that despite this, they do always have access to water (which they rarely drink) and shade.
