snoopdog 1,255 Posted April 17, 2011 Report Share Posted April 17, 2011 i think its about creating a good bond ...( trust)...i got a young pup on at the moment ...very young ..3 1/2 months old ..i took all the dogs out this morning for a good walk ...but this afternoon i made sure i had time for just her on her own for an hour or so..to do a bit of recall ..ect ect ...when out with other dogs they have to much intrest in what there doing and its hard to get there 100% attention...spend as much time as you can ..if it lives outside fetch it in for a while ...with you getting the dog at ten months old you will have your work cut out ...but you will get there with plenty patience.. I remember one of the top coursing men in the country telling me in the late 90's that he parted with a very well bred Bullx because it required a type of discipline that turned off his saluki crosses. Chastizing this dog to the extent that got him to respond, frightened the salukis too much. Fortunately Alan was astute enough to recognize the difference between the mindset of different types. When its going wrong , like been said just walk away, count to 10 , there is always the next day .My bullxgrey pup Tod is brill with recall, but he is very reckless fecker. Last night took them Bryn+Tod for mooch about, i was in a (big) field, let them both have a run about. Feckin Tod as all the field to run in, he run straight at me , i just about got out of the way. This twat would break your legs no prob, 68lb dog running at 30mph .I WAS FECKIN REALLY MAD he got a massive field and he still nearly hit me.! i had to walk away from him and calm down, thats all you can do with any lurcher. 1 Quote Link to post
