dougie_s410k 1
righty 'o' everyone, ive read a few bits on people agreeing and disagreeing on the breeding of ferrets but where do you stand within the colours to breed with? also whats not considered as acceptable and do people tend to go by this when thinking of breeding? or am i being to ANAL about the whole situation? heres a pic of my hob and jill would these be two acceptable colours to breed with? http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/347/ferretjillfc4.jpg my jill http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2892/ferrethob2zq8.jpg hob Quote Link to post

Rabbithunter 456
you will get mostly polecat coloured. As the polecat gene is the dominant, whereas other colours are recessive gene's. Breeding different colours wont matter, its only when you start breeding across the lin ie; brother to sister, that you might start incurring problems. Quote Link to post
dougie_s410k 1
the pole cat colour is ok, i quite like them anyway and the people who keep them who want some kits like the polecat colours as they have a few already....cheers for the replies so far.....the poley in the pic is actually the brother of the one i have at the moment,i need to get a new picture but am using it as a guideline as he looks a spitting image of the brother in the pic :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
I would have thought putting the best to the best to produce the best was the way to go, you know your ferrets & i really dont think colour comes into it, especially if your breeding ferrets to work. you obviously want hardy stock & handlable stock, the handling comes down to you before you re home any kits you dont keep for yourself If you get it right and produce good all round ferrets i dont think you will have a problem Quote Link to post
Crow 1
Remember, if you get an Albino then they both carry the recessive albino gene (might be worth remembering if you want to breed off them at a later date). Crow Edited January 31, 2007 by Crow Quote Link to post
Guest Bigbob
You have what i call a sandie 1st pict and a polecat 2nd pict i can see no problems there .Folk only say dont bred silver to silver Quote Link to post

tote 870
I don't show my ferrets I only work them.Therefor colour doesn't enter into the equasion when i'm looking at breeding a litter. What's more important to me is their working ability and temperament. Nothing worse than a second rate worker that's a biter to boot. Quote Link to post
Hob&Jill 258
I will be breeding my Poly Jill this year, probably to a small Albino Hob. Just out of curiousity what do you think this would throw? Quote Link to post
