running weight, just weighed my 15 month old pup

Recommended Posts

according to the photos, he looks about 24" what height are you??? he is only up to your knees, == and again he looks to me

weight wise, about, around the 50lb mark +or- 5lbs a 70lb dog is a fair lump, and there usually, 27//28" that type of breed, (( bullx is much more solid due to the muscle mass, I have a nice sapling saluki/grey/whippet, with a touch of collie, he stands 26" well balanced, and is about 58lb to 60lb, only my opinion, as the photos go, different, if you are standing beside him, and able to run your hands over him,

How much a dog weighs isn't necessarily the best guide as to whether or not it is getting enough to eat. A lot depends on muscle bulk, density of bone. Put your hands on the dog to decide if he is carrying enough weight. It is difficult to tell from appearances in rough coated dogs. You should just be able to feel the pin bones (on top of his back at the top of his hind legs) You should be able to feel his ribs beneath a layer of looser skin in pups, but not be able to play the banjo on them! You should be able to pinch the skin on top of his head and it should drop back to place quickly: in severely underweight dogs the skin seems too tightly stretched over their heads: they are literally consuming their own tissue in an attempt to stay alive.

The skin all over the dog's body should slide with ease back and forward, though not be covering a thick layer of fat. Lastly, the muscles in a pup shouldn't be rock hard, especially when the dog is resting. They should feel smooth to the touch, and spring back immediately if you press a finger into the muscle: especially on the big thigh muscles on the hind legs: don't press too hard. Look at your own thigh muscles to compare: unless you are very underweight, overweight or a couch potato you should feel the same springy tissue on your resting leg if you poke it.
