socks 32,253
the lurcher is the athlete of the canine world and is expected to produce the goods over and over again in a single night so to think yhey wont need replenishing is ludicrouse. the amount of energy used through the muscle tissue and the amount of lactic acid build up is tremendouse and will need balancing out. fresh water can achieve this but a rehydration drink such as recharge is far far better. every hour or so give the dogs a few laps, that wont be enoughe to bloat the dog out but will be enough to replace the missing salts the dog is burning up when running hard all night. the result is a quicker recovering dog with less cramp and muscle damage which means it can run longer on the night or better over a few nights. do you think the waterloo cup dogs run heat after heat without a drink? or sled dogs can travell 120 miles in one go without taking on fluid? watch a sled dog race and watch the dogs scoop up mouthfulls of snow so as to stay rehydrated. i am not saying that a lurcher expends as much energy as a sled dog but the basics are the same. 2 Quote Link to post
artic 595
This is why I love the working lurcher world! There are so many tales and know it alls! Don't change the habit of a life time. My dogs get a Good Boy or occasionally You flipping Idiot, or very rarely a cuddle........ A small treat at lets say 1pm, usually a small quantity of spam or something similar, IF they are going to run the beam that night, and nothing during their working period. Has worked for ME for a very long time with no complications what so ever. Quote Link to post

mushroom 14,204
I like to give or Trev some of this in his water before I go lamping maybe give him it in a 1/4 of a pint of water. It gives a good energy boost but most importantly it keeps the sugar levels steady. As for while I'm out, as Fartic says muddy puddle, good boy and maybe a hug if he does well  http://www.bulkpowders.co.uk/product.php/262/0/maltodextrin?ls=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=maltodextrin&utm_campaign=NB+Bulk+Powders&gclid=CJvu_MjH-KYCFYIlfAodBDQQEw Quote Link to post
