WATER BOILS

just wondering how many times a day you lads and lasses are filling them up ,as just keeps frezezeing ,when i fill mine up which is about 5 times aday ,i emty the block of ice,i pour boiling water into the boil [big bowl]and then half with cold ,just wondering how much water do you think a dog needs a day,and do they drink more or less when it this cold,,,,atb,,,and happy christmas ,,,,,gaz

my water bowls are inside the kennel so dont freeze,,,, i think im right in thinking hot water or warm water freezes quiker than cold water,,, im shure i remember that from science at school

your right tomo i was think of warming the dogs trough,as i stated how much water do think a dog needs ,and do they drink more or less with the cold snap

your right hot /warm water freezes quicker -- you done well to remember all that way back to your school days ....

i honestly wouldnt know how much in pints a dog would need,, but provided you keep replacing it like you have , its hard to do much more.

cheers tomo i no about the the hot water ,but i only do it so it warms them trough ,just peace of mind ,and no thats why i,ll be raplaceing more but if warms the dog trough for abit i do,nt mind

a dog needs more water in the cold.

if you can (i can't) put a ball in the dogs water bowl to stop it freezing

mine get water over their evening feed and warm milk over their breakfast so get plenty of liquid during the day also check water twice a day in this climate .

IM THE SAME WHERE IAM. I USE EARTHENWARE BOWLS SO PUP CANT TIP EM OVER & IM HAVING 2 BOIL KETTLES WHEN CHANGING BOWLS & PUT EM TO SOAK IN A BUCKET TO MELT THE ICE. WHEN I WASH THE RUNS I HAVE TO PUT SALT DOWN TO STOP IT ICING. POLITICIANS MADE RUNNING A DOG ILLEGAL, THIS WEATHER MAKES IT IMPRACTICAL Edited December 25, 2010 by optimus

mate ur right in hot water the molecules are excited so to speak and this speeds up freezin process quicker same theiry with a kettle addin cold water instead of warm will come to the boil quicker.

Mine are out side and they do freeze up but wat i do to stop it freezing solid is mix some table salt and sugar in the bowl a little trick my dad taught me its good for your dogs too it actually acts as an electrolite and you find the water does really freeze solid mine do freeze but its like theyve got a slush puppy in there bowls ha ha ha
