its got to be how it has been spun onto the spool is there anyway dealing with this or making it straight or at least back to normal.

its from deben, has anyone else had the same problem and do you think they will send me some new spools to replace these ones.

good hunting

When loading your needle first turn it one way and then the other - don't keep turningthe needle one way. Also, allow the hemp to come off the reel as if the reel was on a roller - don't lay it flat side down and pull the hemp up from the top (if you now what I mean!).

As has been said you'll always get a bit of twist, but a quick soak and a hang out to dry soon cures that!

As with most twines, apart from braid they have a twist to their fibres. this comes from the manafacturing prosess. Some twist clockwise some anti clockwise. Z twist and horser twist i believe.

I would like to have a little bet with REW here that ,like so many others he loads his needle up in this fasion.......

I bet you REW that you start by loading your needle and turn the needle the same way from start to finish, correct?

On braided line this is fine but not on other lines.Even with spun nylon watch how the meshes twist as you take them off the mesh gage.

This is how i was taught

loop the twine round the pin of the needle bringing the twine down around the bottom of the needle, turn the needle clockwise and take the twine back up to the pin and around it bringing it back down the needle.DONT CONTINUE TO TURN THE NEDDLE CLOCKWISE BUT TURN IT BACK ANTI CLOCKWISE HALF A TURN. Doing this meens that you cancel out the natural twist in the twine. repeat this untill needle is fully loaded. this will solve your probs.

Glad to see your still having a go at net making, well done ;)
