you are right, I know nothong of football....infact my lifes ambition is to die without ever having been to a football match in my life  .....but my brother was a professional footballer playing for a rather good ;) team for a while, so Im happy to take his word for it :D

If your brother told you the sky was green with purple spots would you take his word for it or look out the window and check for yourself

The fact you have no interest in football sums up your knowledge of the person your talking about !.....Tiger Woods is shit at golf...ive never been to golf but thats my view

And yes,as the other chap said.....whos your brother ?....come on dont be shy.

robbed bet he gets up six in the morn rides out then travels the four corners of the uk to ride 7 races on a half ton beast traverling at 35 mph which could throw him to his death

Normally you speak a lot of sense zigzag dan,but on this occasion your way off......being a succesful sportsman is as much about raw talent and skill as it is hard work.....yes it takes a lot of dedic

I find it quite funny sometimes listening to some folks understanding of top level sport ....   For somebody who " was never even a particularly good footballer ".....he represented his country more

gnasher you state Beckham has always been very popular with the England fans , well your wrong, what about when he was ( in my opinion wrongly) sent off against Argentina , he was slaughtered , oh and when England fans where shoutin they hoped his KIDS die of cancer , to me he is a GREAT role model for kids and has used the most off his god given talent , but dont make out he has always been highly thought off by the England fans , when he played for man.u. the players from that club where all booed by England fans.

Robbed ? McCoy got 291,000 , Taylor got 72000 not even close was it ? McCoy should have won it years ago ,15 time champion jockey , up at crack of dawn , eating a bit of fish or chicken somedays , nothing else , jogging in a sauna with your clothes on to lose weight , cant compare it to throwing darts really can you ?

Normally you speak a lot of sense zigzag dan,but on this occasion your way off......being a succesful sportsman is as much about raw talent and skill as it is hard work.....yes it takes a lot of dedication to reach the top in any sport, but getting up at the crack of dawn does not qualify a man as a great sportsman........to be a great sportsman and reach the top of your sport requires as much determination and dedication as it requires skill and talent......now while i dont claim to know much about the gee gees im not sure how much skill and talent is involved but i wont be ignorant and presume it requires none !...skill and talent being a gift you were born with not one you work hard to get, thats what puts the greats in sport at the highest level,a natural gift they was born with......taken to the peak through hard work and dedication.....one doesnt come without the other at that level.

If you accept darts as being a sport then Phil Taylor most definately has been robbed, show me a British sportsman in any generation of living memory who has dominated his chosen sport on the world scale more than Phil Taylor ?....He practises hard,is very dedicated, and has bundles of talent......if you accept darts as a sport which understandably some folk dont.....then Taylor has been robbed of this award for the past 5 years at least !

you average national hunt jockey comes off 1 in 10 rides riding a animal doing 35 miles an hour they have to keep to a strict diet , unlike darts players they train hard , the very nature of their chosen sport lends its self to a fitness regime only matched by boxers except boxers fighting for a tile lets say 12 rounds mccoy rides 7 days a week 7 rides a day his dedication and single mindedness is legendary he has broken nearly every bone in his face i seen him fall a cheltenham most boxers would have thrown in the towel mccoy walked back to the weighing in room got changed and carried on , to compare phil Taylor to mccoy is to compare aurdrey Harrison to cassius clay , mccoy is a true sports man in the true sense of the word bit like base ball gnash its only rounders really ;)

So there was a couple of months of a 15 year career where he was hated, big deal....im talking in the last ten years or so....do you go to England games ?....if you did you would know what im saying !...He is cheered the loudest and longest every match,as a sub he gets off the bench and the place comes alive.....and thats not because he has a showbiz wife, most real football fans couldnt give a bollock who a player is married to they are just concerned with what a player does on a football pitch.....and that is why Beckham has been so popular with an England shirt on.

I'm Welsh so my mentality tells me I should hate English players but when somebody as talent whatever nationality they are you have to applaud it............simple as!

But its not a " hard work " contest is it.....I,ll use Ian Botham as an example as he won the award in the 80,s also.....Botham was known as quite a lazy player when it came to Cricket....but he had such undoubted talent and skill and achieved so much he was a worthy winner of the award......if it was just a case of who works the hardest then somebody like Steve Redgrave should have won it every year considering his accomplishments.

You just cant compare sports achievements based on how much hard work you do to be succesful at it.In his sport Phil Taylor works just as hard as McCoy does in his sport or Ali did in his sport,Andy Murray in his sport etc etc etc.....The common ingredient is immense natural talent along with hard work....but one is not more important than the other.

John Charles,Ian Rush,Ryan Giggs......you dont need to be hating on English players when you,ve had plenty talented greats of your own ;)

What about George Digweed-world champion at clay pigeon I think 17 times and doesn't even get a look in but then again his chosen sport involves those nasty gun things that are so politically incorrect nowadays-folks would sooner watch synchronised swimming or grown men kicking a pigs bladder around a field for 1 million pounds a week!

gnash come to the gallops one morning then go to a race meeting and then tell me it ain't a hard work sport i don't think you have ever witnessed the day in the life of a nh jockey

i would compare there fitness levels to any top sportsmen darts snooker are pastimes that have become tv sports and gained there top personalities fame , recently a jockey christian Williams was unseated and thrown over a fence putting his hands out to stop his fall he was traveling so fast when the para medics reached him they had to pull him out of the ground his arm had broke at the elbow and the bone had gone through his skin and into the ground these lads are as game as the come , come to the stable lads boxing nights , oh and the next day they told Chris his other arm was broke , darts :whistling: might get cramp :whistling:

What has me watching them got too do with it , you cant be questioned can you , maybe he is cheered the loudest and rightly so he has been the 1 player who playing for his country means something, but i will say again ENGLAND supporters when it suited them SLAUGHTERED HIM AND WISHED HIS KIDS A TERRIBLE DEATH, am i wrong to put a point over if it goes against what your sayin ? if what i said was wrong fair enough but you just move the goal posts by sayin "if he was hated for a couple off months big deal" ~ I BET IT WAS A BIG DEAL TO HIS FAMILY WHEN IT WAS HIS CHILDREN BEING TARGETED .

Slow down mate, what you getting excited about !....we,re just having a chat about a subject that obviously interests us both, the way a chat works is you make a point then i make a point.....nobody wins or loses so no need to get all competetive and start talking about moving goalposts

Yes fans gave him stick thats just the nature of football fans.....but the fact is....apart from possibly Bobby Moore....Beckham is the most popular footballer ever to where an England shirt....am i wrong ?....the point about watching England games is over the tv you obviously dont get the atmosphere within a ground,im simply saying when your at a ground when England are playing its very easy to tell who the most popular and appreciated England player is,and thats over quite a few years.
