The Hare and the Swift Hound - The Benchmark Coursing Book !

Recommended Posts

Myself ,along with a few others who have written articles for Darcy books in the past, have the privilege of receiving books up front from the man himself .Having met the man and hunted with him it is very clear that he has a very good ,fact based knowledge of all things wild which stretches from flora to fauna .This book has been a long time in the making and the hours spent in its content,i know, would bore a lesser man but JD settles for nothing less than his take on perfection .The pictures throughout capture the very raw and rough struggle between the hare and running dog ,something which brought back very vivid memories of my times lining out across the stubbles . The passion for the chase and the respect for the quarry is very evident in every script within its covers and will be instantly relatable to those who know the score .Very nicely bound in a hard back and a limited edition too, very collectable .

Totally agree with the above review. I am amazed at the quality of the pics and cant even begin to imagine the amount of effort JD has put into this book.

I strongly advise the running dog lads to purchase a copy , you wont be disappointed.

Best book to date in my opinion

Just got the book today and I have to say I was gob-smacked.

Over the years I have taken a few decent pictures, more by luck than judgement, but having just sat and thumbed through this book, I realise that Darcy hasn't taken these photographs by accident. This is talent. Talent and sheer hard work.

This book is a masterpiece. I can't put it any other way.

This is going to be born out by the fact that this book is going to be listed in people's favourites for years, maybe generations because quite frankly, I can't see anyone surpassing this book.

To think that there are only 1,000 copies out there....it's quite frankly a must for anyone interested in coursing or running dogs. Darcy's finest moment so far.

I received my copy of Jonathan Darcy's latest book ,"The Hare and the Swift Hound ",on Friday .

Just finished it.

It is a photographic record, coupled with pertinent comments,of the eternal duel between our greatest mammalian athlete, The Brown Hare, and its pursuer, the specialist bred long dog.

This is a book about coursing, and the dogs, and men ,that took part in it,[preban].

As such it is unsurpassed, both in the quality ,and the clarity of the photos, inside it.

The photos of hares, are simply the best I have ever seen. They show Lepus in his natural habitat ,in full flight, ,at play, safe in his form, and stretching his legs , ears back, in front of top class dogs.

Dynamic action shots of great dogs ,doing what they have been bred to do for centuries,

illustrate the magnificent spectacle that is single handed coursing.

Darcy's photos put you right in the action,in field ,and fen,,after looking at them, you actually feel you were there.

Jonathan has raised the bar, and set a new benchmark for running dog photography.

Added to the stunning pictures, are enlightening interviews with two men ,who need no introduction to coursing aficionados. Alan Sankey & Craig Nuttall. Recaps of their

early days, and their triumphs in top competition are discussed, as well as the great dogs that achieved them.

Anyone who has an interest in coursing ,and or Lurcherwork ,will love this book.

What a great Xmas present it would make? Luckily for me, Xmas has come early ! INAN.
