Anyone good at doing percentages?

Recommended Posts

If the Dam to my pup is -

1/4 Whippet

1/4 Staff

1/4 Greyhound

1/4 Bull

And the Sire is -

1/4 Bull

3/4 Greyhound

Then 1/4 equates to 25% of each breed,it's not 1/2 greyhound as this would be 50% greyhound, greyhound has been given at 1/4 which is 25%.

Correct me if i'm wrong lads but my reckoning is that this pup is

4/8 greyhound

2/8 bull

1/8 whippet

1/8 staff

higgins

Correct.

I you divide everything into the single, you get 8 parts. So then add the different parts together.

Right then, a bit more time now.

The Dam is,

1 part Whippet, 1 part Staffy, 1 part Bull and 1 part Grey. So 4 single parts.

This is assuming that the Staff and the Bull in the mix are different dogs.

The Sire is,

1 part Bull and 3 parts Grey, so again 4 parts.

Now just add the same parts together,

4/8th Grey = 1/2 or 50%

2/8th Bull = 1/4 or 25%

1/8th Staffy = 1/8 or 12.5%

1/8th Whippet = 1/8 or 12.5%

If you cross your Dog again, the division will be by 16ths or 6.25% If you do, i'll need help with that sum.

Thats just the Maths, as someone else has pointed out it doesn't all come out like that.

hope that helps,

Arch.

It's all hypothetical anyway, a first cross is 50/50 after that, because genes are past randomly, you'll never know what percentage of anything is in the dog.

Spot on.

After first crosses, I personally think your better choosing your lining by the eye rather than on paper.
