Couple of hours out

Recommended Posts

Went out for a couple of hours tonight with assasingirl and Blackstaff off here. AG ran her jrtxwhippet, Parker, and BS had the two pups he bred, bullxwhipgrey, Tod and Pearl. As usual my bitch is laid up so i was lamping :( The weather was perfect, wind and drizzling.

Parker damaged one eye at the end of last season and has limited sight in it. We've been out a few times since and hes struggled to connect, he ran them well but kept missing his strike so i was starting to worry. He was back on form tonight :toast: missed the first one then caught two one after the other, caught the next one in cover but didnt retrieve it, not sure whether it got away from him or he just couldnt get it out of the brambles, which was a shame.

Pearl and Tod have been retrieving, in a way, rabbits that had shot with the airgun but had not run live ones yet. A squatter out in the field offered a perfect first try and Pearl was slipped, she over shot on the first turn but got back on terms with it but it just got into cover ahead of her.

It then pissed it down for ten minutes which sent all the rabbits in. Parker managed one more on the way back to the motor.

At the next place the stubbles were a bit high and the wind had dropped off. Rabbits were about but close in, Parker got one slip which he really deserved to catch but missed, ran it into cover, flushed it, ran it into the next field outside the beam then back through the gate, several more turns but it got to ground inches in front of him. He seemed alot better tonight. hopefully hes adapting to the eye problem.

In the last field Tod got his chance at a squatter. Due to a misunderstanding Parker was slipped at the same time :wallbash: luckily it actually turned out well as he turned it across Tod who ran ran it down the hedge and caught it with a spectacular tumbling strike :toast: His first rabbit on the lamp! That will be the end of lamping for him until after christmas now til hes full grown but at least he has started.

The pups are 9 1/2 months old and really starting to come on. Plenty of ferreting between now and christmas and hopefully a lamped one for Pearl, if the ideal bunny turns up, and they should be ready for a proper start in the new year.

A very enjoyable couple of hours and back home for a cuppa by 11, perfect for a week night! :D

Lol ... a post about actually going out and it gets no replies?

Maybe i should do one called "howta catch dem foxis" or "lets see you dogs for dis season" that seems to get the most interest or maybe the old favourite "bull x, lets see um"

Laughable!

I know what you mean.. Someone posts a picture of a bull x with feet like a seagull & you get 20 pages of 'Nice dog mate', then another 20 pages of bitching and arguing... :whistling:

Cheers lads, apologies for the strop :icon_redface: it just wound me up.

Lurchermania - my bitch has had a long catalogue of injuries. Shes a daredevil and just dosent care what happens to her as long as she catches! That sounds great but shes 3 1/2 and not worked a full season without injury yet, shes missing a toe, legs scarred up, cost me hundreds and put me on first name terms with most local vets and bonemen! At thid moment in time its a torn shoulder muscle so nothing too serious.

TBH shes a bit of a liability. Im thinking of getting a new puppy over the next few months to bring on for next season, then my seasons sport wont depend on how clumsy shes been! Its not ideal as we're pretty much on our limit for dogs but there has to be a point when enough is enough. No doubt as soon as i get a puppy she will never go lame again - sods law!

I know what you mean Tyla, you take the time and effort to write an honest account of your session and you struggle to get a reply.

Yet if you were to write "a crock of shit" it would run to numerous pages, makes you wonder if it's a hunting site or a bitching site.:hmm:

Anyway, well done on the lamping and thanks for sharing it.
