Serious question

Recommended Posts

I was out lamping last night and bumped into 3 lads with lurchers lamping on my permission. I questioned them and the farmer has also given them permission so that was OK .

Whilst talking to them I asked if they had seen any foxes and they said they saw one which was sitting in a hedge looking at them . They slipped the dogs anyway knowing full well they had no chance of catching it. So my question is WHY ???? :wallbash:

I am trying to keep the fox numbers down and it doesnt help when lurchers lads make them shy.

I have no problem with lurchers at all but cant see the point in slipping at a lost cause , better off leave it for another night ...

Honest replies appreciated ....

I wouldn't personally, and I can't for the life of me see a reason why anybody else would want to.... That's the problem with the dog game now, not enough hunters & too many doing it just for the sake of 'fcuking the ban'...

iv bounced a few foxes out of hedgerows with the dog over the years so not always easy to say that you know full well they not going to catch it,can and does happen especially if your dog readily enters cover after its quarry although others iv had i wouldn't think of slipping for obvious reasons

Well no if i thought they were no point..

But then again iv took a few fox an munty (Pre Ban) like that they sit tight in the hedge and the dog hits the cover or they break at last sec......

I do when i'm making foxes lamp shy so the rifle boys don't get an easy shot :tongue2: ,but when running quarry to catch never and allways pick the slips when i do for the dogs advantage.

its hard to say if they wont catch isnt it too be fair. sometimes you can slip the dog and it will bounce them out the hedgerows or they get flustered and mess up and dog gets it. here is a point though on that. Everytime you pull that trigger you dont know you will hit or maybe wound it so they are lamp shy then anyway. swings in round abouts. if you lamp ground with guns not good to have lurcher people on their. plus their is a ban now so its what if ent it

you lamp a fox with lurcher and miss stands chance it wont be totally shy. you lamp it and miss it with one of those cannon balls they use too shoot them and it will be definatly be shy then

Just how do you come to that conclusion? beam comes on and a bullx runs up and tries to eat you or beam comes on and you hear a bang but nothing else happens.
