dog or bitch

Recommended Posts

hi,just wanting a bit of advise from more experienced lurchermen.im goin to see a litter of 6week old 3/4 beddy whippet this weekend but i am unsure on what to get,a dog or a bitch.i will be using in future mainly for ferreting and some daytime mooching

on its own.

iv also got a stafford male(dog friendly) whos just a pet but im sure he wouldnt take much convincing to get in those bushes.

anyway iv been away from working dogs for a few years now since i was a kid,so my dad used to train and bring them on so this one will be my first so to speak.

iv asked my dad and he says a bitch would be slightly easier to bring on than a male.

whats your take on this? all advice welcome.thanks

I'd say bitch too...I find bitches slightly more easy to train and your Staff would probably get on better with a bitch too. Good luck!

Well since you already have a male dog then i would get another male. Could save alot of hassle later on when its an all male household.

yep male, eaiser in the long term . ive had dogs+bitchs, and its ok till the bitch breaks down, then the dogs will be going nuts to get to her. :wallbash: Just keep a eye on the staff, most dogs are ok with pups, when the staff gets used him, they will be mates

i was worried if i got a male there would be problems with dominance but since the staff is 2 a pup would not deem a threat and the pecking order will remain unchanged even when pup is fully grown.plus like bird said, they will be mates.

The cross you are getting i would definately go for a dog plus even though the staffys having his jacobs off and carnt do any damage you might find he will still pester the bitch [bANNED TEXT] shes in season as the bitch will also possibly torment him as well as my mates castrated terrier tries his hardest to mate my springers [bANNED TEXT] their in season.
