berty1 8
My Saluki bitch has just come in season, she is just 1yr old (1st Aug)I was hoping to start bringing her on soon with a few young `uns now the corn is being cut. Also this week my 15mth old saluki/whippet/greyhound has come in season, I was hoping to get her started on a few young `uns and moving her on as she gains confidence and with a few bigger ones as they age through the autumn/winter. I heard from start to finish you should lay them off for 9-10 weeks when in season as they go through a flat spot (no stamina, energy etc) so that takes me to beginning of October before I start working them. Does that sound right to you guys/gals?? Quote Link to post
GET THEM OUT (.)(.) 39
personally i would think all bitches are different thro there season, my 2 bitches are fine and have no change what so ever, my old terrier bitch is very weak and dull when in season, ive seen some bitches collaspe after a short play whilst out on walks, just be carefull and wait for them to come out of season and they should be fine, , Quote Link to post
riohog 5,939
like has been said ..some bitches recover from a season quickly ..but others , it can be as much as 100 days ,back to full fittness !. Quote Link to post
Guest stewie
lol 9-10 weeks is miles off the mark mate id say from when you 1st notice some blood drops give her two weeks off from that day and you will be sound as long as your not running the bitch with dogs as she will still appeal to dogs then Quote Link to post
Guest fence_hopper
ran mine through her season just give her a few less runs. no problems tbh Quote Link to post

weasle 1,119
Mine run through, never had a problem,i always stop when a dogs had enough in season or not.Its not a track were a split second counts. My dogs certanly wouldn`t thank me for going from fit to sitting at home.Dos any wild dog stop hunting because its in season. Each to there own i guess. baldockbanks courser 598
track dogs are diffrent your talking fractions of seconds making big diffrences. if a wild animal couldnt kill for 9 weeks it would die. my three are in season now and ill run them and judge on what i see its the best way. collie/grey 238
Never had a problem running my bitches in season, never laid them off either, if they were layed off for ten weeks then another 14 weeks she be back in again, then another 10 weeks rest, season gone, what would be the point in owning a bitch to work if that was the case?? Physically they are no different if a bitch builds up fat through being in season it happens to them all wether they're on the track or laid in front of a fire Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
stabba 10,745
Being in season is not an illness ...just run them as normal and adjust their sessions accordingly...i understand where the greyhound men are coming from because every second counts...but lurchers are not run by the clock and nor should they be....they are hunters pure and simple...atb stabba...just to add my bitches are allways ran when in season with no ill effects whatsoever.
