Whats the best and worst pellets you've used?

Recommended Posts

Zeroed my harrier x today @ 25 yards, and as I was planning on going rat shooting I thought I would use Bisley Pest control. Well what a fecking nightmare. With any pellet, you get the odd flyer but this was a bloody joke! I got the odd one that would hit the bull :wallbash: and the rest spread between 2 and 3". My shooting isnt that bad so I loaded the mags up with Air Arms field and within 3 shots I was hitting the bullseye and began putting pellet on top of pellet :boogie: as I usually would with this choice. I wont be using the Bisley Pest control again thats for sure.

I wouldnt be shooting at 25 yards anyway, but was going to zero at that range and move in and work out my aim points on the scope.

Getting back to my topic,

The best pellets I have used are- Air Arms Field, and Bisley Long Range Gold.

The worst pellets I have used are- Prometheus (original ones), and Bisley Pest control.

Hello mate. Maybe try the grouping on the pest controllers at 15 meters?? Maybe 25 is just that bit too far?

Best performance I've used I suppose are the AA Field style pellets, in their variety of producers and tiny differrences respectivley. e.g RWS Superfields, JSB's and so on.

However I would say that possibly for all round best pellet that I have used over the years is RWS superdomes. A good mid weight pellet and you'll be lucky to find ONE in a tin thats not perfect as they are solid little b*****ds. However they're probably not as good performance wise as AA Field.

WORST pellet for me were Napier Power Hunters, maybe it would a screw loose or somethinb but my gun through them everywhere, which is strange as she isnt pellet fussy!?

Good thread.

All the best

Hi,

My best pellet is my .22 FX pellets / Air Arms Fields.

Worst pellet is a Milbro Calladonian.

Si

Same here  but I group a couple of mill tighter with the AAF's (still witing to try the H&N FTT)

Best groups I got with the MilCal in my AA S200 was four inches :icon_eek:

I would also add Promethius and Lanes BULLDOG to the worst list

I tried the prometheus pellets probably 10 or 12 years ago in my .177 mk2 tx200 and couldnt get a tighter group than about 4 inches. I used about 100 pellets trying to get a good group and there was only 125 in a box! Lol

What size Air Arms Field pellets does everyone use? Ive never tried the 5.51s simply because Im more than happy with the performance of the 5.52s.

Kyle

I'm using 5.52 in AAF's and FX at the moment.

But tightest groups were with 5.51 AAF's

Mal: My hw70 quite like Marksmen in .177 but your right they are nearly as cheap as Lanes Bulldogs

Hi, mate.

Depends on the gun but being general I guess .177 Baracuds, Loguns and H and N FTTS, Dynamic TM1's, .20 Dynamic SPC5 (my favourite!!) and Baracudas again, .22 Loguns again, FTT's again and AA Field.

Worst? What's already been mentioned and Ely Wasps. The Wasp's used to be one of my top pellets but the quality has totally gone to pot recently. Shame...

Cheers.

Prometheus is a Trading name

But if in small box was Pargons - was made for unchoked springers

My money would be on Defiant 4.50's @ 7.50 Grains - working well in your gun

Aware they do work well in most others TX's

stupid.gif agree eley wasps a shite and my new rifle hates jsb exact heavies in .177 wallbash.gif but for all round quality i would say fx or aa fields toast.gif

So much good pellets on the market these days.Depending on the rifle.I do agree wasps must be the worst easy.Maybe they called it the wasp because it buzzes all over the place and will only sting laugh.gif
