So our finance minister seems optimistic that the recession in Ireland will come to an end here later this year.

What do ye reckon?

I personally think it is going to get worse. There are no jobs, everyone I know is unemployed or part-time work here and there, and we can hardly survive on the dole. Building trade is finished. Big companies are leaving as well.

What's left for us now?

Is the recession over then?.....

:(

Technically, it may happen. I forget the recession definition, something like two or three financial quarters in contraction. so if there a 0.001% growth :clapper:

But, I agree with your estimation of the situation, we're all f****d for a good while yet. 800 more jobs going south today.

What's left for us? Good question, depends to a huge degree on how sensible people were during the "Happy hour" that was the last decade. Big mortgage and unresolved lifestyle debts I'd say you're properly f****d. Reasonable mortgage (for these times, not back then, so probably a relatively mature one) and little to no lifestyle debt with secure job you're grand.

There's one thing that's for sure though, and that is that nothing is for sure.

This next budget, I reckon, will contain more pain than the last one as each year it's getting closer to the bone.

I do hope they cut the OAP pension, as they seem to be the only section of the population that actually possess the balls to bring the Guberment down.

Iv worked in the building trade for years! its never been this bad ever. We have been pricing work for nothing and still no joy.

I gave up on pricing jobs, mate got me a job on his shift. Ce'st la vie.

I'm not in the trade any more, but most of my family and friends are. I was talking to a mate yesterday, owns his own shop fitting/carpentry firm. Reckons the interest is picking up, pricing jobs up all over the place. Problem is the actual work's not forthcoming, most of his lads are either sat at home waiting or floating about jobbing on small, private jobs.
