Phantom 631
260410 Walking to my permissions this evening seemed very quiet. Looking down to the right on the flyover embankment and where as usually its pretty much heaving down there with bunnies, I only managed to see 8 in total. Perhaps they were in the field that is at the other side of the hedgerow? As I approached the cricket club grounds, there appeared to be some kind of inter-school game taking place, not so many people as the other day, but I crossed the road, to minimize the number of people gawping at me. Slipped into the paddock, quick ganders round looking for fluffy, none! just lately there has been quite a few directly ahead and of late there has always been one, taunting me, demanding that I stalk to just within striking range, before it flicks its tail and gives me Looked over to the far left of the paddock and I see a flock of 8 Woodies take to the air. Damn it, I forgot to bring those deeks with me, oh well another time. Tonight, its a revenge mission for the other day The Cotton Tail Assassin, WILL Kill tonight. Oh yes! Stuck my Zero card out at 30 yards from my chosen point, I mark with my 30 yard string both 15 yards and 45 yards. Then taking no notice of the wind which was more or less constant from my left at between 5 and 10 MPH I aimed squarely at the bull of the 1st target and fired a group of 5 shots at the 30 yard target. Apart from one flyer all the others grouped a one hole measuring 11mm from edge to edge. I decided that as the last one was a flyer which landed exactly 8mm above the bull; I must stick another one in, fired that and it went right in the middle of the hole. The group was slightly to the right of the bull, I put this down to the wind as if there was no wind I would have removed the bull. Brought the card to 15 yards mark and aimed at the bull and at 9X the pellet landed at the top of the thin cross, which is exactly where I expected it to land. Fired another 4 shots, all of which grouped into one hole measuring 7mm edge to edge. Note to self!! ***Must try harder to get that grouping down so I can do the 10 pellet Pile Up for Stealthy*** Finally I took the card out to 45 yards and aimed squarely at the bull. The wind was about the same, but the added distance meant the pellets were blown further to the right and all pellets landed between 8 and 12.5 cm low. Right, the reason's for me carrying out these shots are 2 fold. 1 to make sure my groups are as tight as possible and the gun is zero'd correctly (in case the combo has had any knocks since last trip) 2 I am getting different POI using Chairgun Pro for these pellets! Anyway after doing these tests it was a case of moving into the cemetery for my revenge mission. I wanted to come away with at least 2 bunnies today, more would be a bonus. Moving to the central bush and warren I set my little hide up (walled poncho), covered my gun in the DPM cover; then got my string and proceded to make some more measurements around the cemetery from my sniping point. Once done I got my head and face gear on. Patiently; I laid awaiting my first victim to show. I had my gun pointing directly towards the boundry bordering the old ladies house; although my eyes were constantly looking towards the railings around those graves where the bunnies were the other day. Having measured exactly the distance to the hedge beyond them and finding it was closer than I had estimated previously, I had worked out that If a bunny was hiding behind those railings again, I would be able to take the shot without worrying about the pellet trajectory hitting the crossbars and the target would indeed die. As I was scanning the boundry fence I saw a reasonable size buck appear as if by magic, sat precisely at my primary zero point facing me. I aint got a clue where it came from but slowly I moved my eye to the scope and without needing to move the gun, the crosshairs were directly level between his eyes. He seemed to be looking directly at my eyeball in the scope sniffing the air. I could take the shot its one of those that I have done before and found to be relatively easy when taking my time. However I decided to wait for a side view instead "Come one you little bugger turn left or right, I dont care which, just do it or I'm gonna get impatient and give you a hole between the eyes" I said under my breath. About a minute later, he turned his head to his left without moving the rest of his body. Bingo, I didn't need to move the rifle, the crosshair was placed perfectly half way between the base of his eye and his lug, I was already in the perfect part of my breathing cycle and it all came together at just the right moment, Click, phut, Crack, Front of bunny went airborn and he rolled over instantly, a couple of frantic waves from his back paw and then nothing. All of a sudden; startling me (well scaring the crap out of me would be a better way to put it) a male voice behind me shouted "BLOODY GOOD SHOT!" I nearly jumped out of my skin! One of the men who tend the allotments behind my position had walked up so far near the hedge and seen me move my head to the scope, he had stopped dead until I took the shot, I'm guessing thats why bunny seemed to be looking directly at me sniffing the air. "Lets have a look then" he continued "Can I see where you shot it?" I walked over to the dead buck and brought it back to show him. We had spoken last year, when I first got the permission and he had asked where I shot them. Of course he didn't believe me when I said I go for the brain and thats why he wanted to see the evidance. Holding up the buck by his ears I pointed out the pellet impact point, touching it so he could see the blood. "Wow you really do shoot them in the head?" he asked. Not wanting to get into a long conversation with him again, I made my excuses and told him, now this ones out, the others won't be long, so I best get back to it. :wankerzo4: Luckily he didn't hang around, just wanted to check the soil as he wanted to start planting or summat again. Here's Uncle Buck And heres a close up of the shot. Notice the clot in his lug? there was blood in his other ear as well. About an hour later, I was scanning around when who should show up again from out of nowhere? that cheeky, speedy tw@t with the light colour fur on his face. Right your mine I said to myself as I got a bead on him. He just would not stop! Followed a similar path to the other day, but this time he did not stop once. As soon as he was in the cemy, he was on a mission. I kept him in the scope till he vanished down a warren. I wasn't keen on the idea of shooting him while moving so he lives till another day. BUT I have a PLAN to stop him in his tracks tomorrow hahahahahaha (evil twisted laugh). Another 30 minutes passed and I could hear a woodie giving it all in a tree about 27 yards from me and in my paddock permission. Decided I'd have a go at providing my tea for this evening, when I swung the gun, perhaps a bit too fast and woodie left with great haste Just then I saw a Doe jump out of a warren entrance and bound over to a patch of nice grass, where she began to snaffle it like it was her last meal, oh it was! 20 yards I'd measured it earlier Placing the guns forestock in my left hand and resting my elbow on my left leg, I was in a fairly stable sitting position. Bringing the Top of the thin post down to where I wanted the pellet to go, I took up the 1st stage, then released the second, click, phut, crack! Hang on! FECK! I must have missed and hit the tree behind her. She was still sat there! Franticly trying to get another pellet into the breech I dare not take my eyes off her in case she ran. Then all of a sudden (this has happened before within a couple of feet of this bunnies position) her head drooped forward slowly then she slowly rolled over dead. I walked over to make sure she was dead and she was, sweet! but freaky how the exact same thing happened in almost the exact same place. Thats two bunnies for two pellets and I'm a happy Assassin 2for2 pic Here's her close up grass still in her mouth Revenge is a dish best served hot and spicy I gathered my stuff and headed off home, relieved that I had not blanked today, and I had not let the little gits run rings around me tonight. When I got home, I waited until the wife had gone to bed, before skinning the bunnies. I had a feeling that the Doe was carrying kits. And when skinning, she had huge amounts of subcutanious fat stores. A big indication of carrying or feeding kits. Upon opening her up, she was indeed carrying 3 kits, this time much bigger than the others. So BONUS again. 2 shots 5 Bunnies. The Does Uterus Looking at the size of these and the detail, I would say that she was almost ready to deliver the next generation of pests. Again I feel a bit sad, but in the cemetery I can't afford to let them live or I'll lose the permission. My little finger is in for scale. Phantom Ps I started writing this at about 3 am, so forgive any spelling mistakes! Quote Link to post

Brilliant pic's, and excellent shooting mate. Bill. Thanks Bill The Allotments are actually covered by the Cemetery Permission. They are only there till the new section is filled Any bunny on the allotments is fair game altough it will be in full view of anyone in the area. Whats that 50 ft rule? erm how about 3 foot If he'd have turned up the other day he would have been sprayed big time, whole new meaning to the phrase "Eat my dirt" Phantom Quote Link to post
