Look,s Like The Repeal,s, a None Starter

Recommended Posts

IF the Tories repeal the Hunting Act, and there is no guarantee they will, it won't mean it will be open season for us to run hare, fox, deer, etc, with our lurchers. They are more likely to AMMEND the Act, and Fox Hunts will be licensed and monitored. Hare coursing, if it adressed at all, will also be limited to licensed clubs. I think individuals will still be banned from coursing hares. So I wouldn't pin my hopes on a complete reversal of the ban.

Cheers.

Agree mate they will never do a 180 maybe go as far as 90 I think coursing hare,s with Lurcher,s within the law is a thing of the past

Hunting not a human right, says Court

Posted: 17 December 2009

In a landmark legal ruling, the European Court of Human Rights has ruled that the Hunting Act does not breach human rights legislation.

The case, brought by the Countryside Alliance and Brian Friend, 70, of Axminster, rested on whether or not the Hunting Act 2004 breached the rights to a private and family life, freedom of association, and protection of property. The court rejected all arguments.

The court rejected arguments that the Hunting Act infringed an individual’s right to a private and family life on the basis that hunting is a public activity and it is not integral to an individual’s identity. The judgment also made clear that the ban on hunting had “not created serious difficulties for earning one’s livingâ€.

Welcoming the ruling, Douglas Batchelor, Chief Executive of the League Against Cruel Sports said: “This is a victory for common sense. No-one has the right to chase and kill animals purely for sport. The Hunting Act is a landmark piece of animal welfare legislation and today’s decision sends a clear message to politicians and the hunting community alike that the ban on hunting is here to stay.â€

An Ipsos-MORI poll in September found that 75% of the public support the ban on fox hunting, and 84% and 85% support the ban on stag hunting and hare hunting respectively.

Thing is if they dont change it, then what? In 10 to 15 years when its all forgoten about some investigative journo does a big peice on how "horrific wildlife crime is still rampant" what then. Massive clampdown. Actualy enforce the law as best they can. At the moment there is more important things on most people minds. Lets face it something that is against the law has no meaning full future. It needs to be made legal to do again or it forces the whole thing underground and in not to many years terrier men will be "fox baiters" to the majority, like people digging badgers are to the majority. Lurchermen will have some other hyped up media name. Ect ect. It needs to go back to the way it was or at least some form of licensing. I think the latter would be better because they would find it hard to bring another ban in if there was existing legislation were as we all know the amount of sway the antis have with certain groups of politicians.

Lurchermen and terriermen just need to get on the street. Put some miles under there boots and make thereselves noticed. No one will fight for lurchers and terriers expet the people who care for it.

since the so called ban,if anything we have all grown stronger.i do however think a nationwide protest is in order. its a shame the general pleasure anglers were/are too ignorant to join the rest of the fieldsports community.

Anglers were not ignorant just that their sport has been more accesable to the ordinary man thats why they would not dare to ban it.
