Lead walk only until its healed, and then when you think its healed, give it another month...

Oh and invest in shares in vet wrap...lol....

if your planning on running the dog strap the foot, cos this is now a weak point and it will probably happen again..

My bitch did this in the middle of last season, its was a nightmare. She seems ok now but it took about 4 months. It opened up twice and had to be restitched. After the final stiches I kept her in the house for 3 weeks and then lead road walks only for another 8 weeks. I kept it strapped all the time she was outside and even did this for a month after she was able to be off lead. As I say, it seems ok now and she has had a bit of work since but I will have all my fingers crossed at the beginning of next season when we start properly.

My advice is get it stitched asap and and then rest it and once you think its healed leave it at least another 6 weeks. I was impatient and it nearly ruined my dog so be careful. Also buy tonnes of vetwrap as it should be wrapped anytime she is outside. Another tip is to strap the vetwrap on with insulation tape, that way it cant fall or be pulled off so easy.

Good luck  and be patient!

Once the stopper is healed ,put surgical spirit on it a couple of times a week ,.when you run the dog use vet wrap .You can buy stopper protectors from the Greyhound Shop in Chiswick ,either in leather or waxed cotton. They have velcro fastenings .but vet wrap will do the job, put a bit of cotton wool on the stopper and wrap over it ,my mate secures his with super glue, it lasts out the day.

If the cut is below the stopper it could be near tendons if you look at the dogs foot belowe the stopper when he is stood up and the foot looks alot more relaxed than the other their could be tendon damage if it is normal just do as the other posts have adviced.atb dell
