  1. All down to which dog you like best id say. You will get good workers in all the types, just because you see photos on here of beaten up Patts, dont mean to say they are all like it. One of the hardest dogs i seen was a russell bitch. Just got to be careful when your looking for pups though, especially russells. they come in alsorts of shapes and sizes and there is alot of shit out there. Fells in my opinion is a rough coated black type. Drives me mad when my bitch gets called a patterdale because they are generally accpeted by most as the smooth caoted black dogs
  2. Nice type fella any history? cheers only history i know is that both parents work....sire still in hunt service on exmoor and mother still working with a somerset hunt
  3. cracking dog the black one zap. Bloody big fox
  4. Aye, good point there! But one point that has been missed by some, is that single holers are a strict NO NO with todays (rediculous) legisltion! i suppose so but there was a chpter in one of darcy's books about single holes i think and about how you still get bolts from them
  5. tunnell at the end of the hedge by a gate way will do the job. I had 11 in the space of 2 months from one gateway. 9 on one tunnell and 2 on the other side
  6. Do any of you chaps have any foot paths going near any of your earths? I got a single hole that is about 40 yrs if that from a foot path and was wondering how many would leave it well alone? I got a signed letter ect from the land owner so am completly legal but wonder if it would be worth the hassel of trying to convince some idiot i aint doing the wrong sort of terrier work
  7. work sutff only 32!! most iv had on my own was 6 or so!! well done
  8. When would you start letting them enter un occupied earths etc? And When I take them out for rats its right that I should try and keep them away from rabbits aint it? Did you let your dog rag dead foxes ? Regards Ben I didnt let my bitch enter any holes until the first time she went to ground after something. If they are out of good stuff they wont take much encouragement! I let mine see a few foxes and have a rag on them yeah, cant see that it will do them any harm myself. About the rabbits, youl get blokes say to leave them alone and blokes that say let them go aft
  9. odnt do alot with them other than the usual puppy stuff until they are about 5-6month then let them start knocking about where there are rats to and let them learn to hunt. In time they will meet a rat and thats that. Will get a few bites but they soon ignore that and will probably make them more determinded to kill them quicker! As for foxing get out with someone, simple as really. Iv tried doing it alone so far and it aint easy or much fun to be honest
  10. Is it just me or do these just look like russells????
  11. I like to see a waste of my bitch. I know tha way shes just the right weight. If they look like a barrell then they been living the good life too much

  16. haha yeah guilty of worrying to much! Just want her to do well you know. I suppose i do expect to much of her aswell. You never read about the dogs that take a while to enter...only the ones that fly to ground first time and dont show at the hole ever. Looking forward to the trip over to yours aswell. Your a good man cheers aswell everyone

  19. Ferrets!!! Why make more and far more dangerous work for yourself and your dogs
  20. Anyone had troubles with dogs, especially young first season dogs, false marking? Taken my unentered bitch out twice this season, gone to ground fine but second time she may well have been false marking. Il put my hands up and admit its my fault if she has started because i over encouraged her (over excited beginner!) Is this a habit that can be kurbed and how do i nip it in the bud? Iv been taking her out on her own and recon il leave off until i go out with an experienced dog Cheers
  21. Good age to get it going. Mine used to have a liking to chase rabbits but i got her out of that little habit Speaking from recent experience, dont over encourage!
