  1. Hello Deker, your right about it being fairly easy when your with someone who it's easy for and has good equipment. I've taken a few people out that have never shot long distance before and let them shoot after me with my equipment. In such cases they usually shoot no more than 2 times and will have rang the steel at 1000 yards. Making the leap from 1000 yards to a mile is not to bad but I guess I kinda did it a couple hundred yards at a time though and had a rifle built specificly for shooting at such distance. My purpose in doing such extreme long range shooting is so
  2. I was wondering how the long range game would go over here on this forum also. I am very pleasantly surprised that no one has but hopefully they will not and this will remain a positive thread. Seems just by a quick comparison that the cost for such gunsmith work and reloading supplies is at least double the cost for yall. That's really sad to hear as i thought our cost was pretty expensive. Our cost has risen pretty good over the past 7 years and some common ammo such as 22 rimfire is pretty hard to find still. Likewise on powder, primers and bullets at various times. I tho
  3. Hello CARiD and welcome to the forum.
  4. Pigs, whitetail deer, coyotes, and the every other year or two elk hunt. I normally get on a high point over looking big bottoms. Occasionally i will set on big crop fields. I live where its fairly wooded and i wouldnt really refer to it as flat nor hilly but somewhere in between.
  5. I don't know what factory ammo is selling for in different calibers. I haven't shot a factory shell in probably over a decade. I reload for all my rifles. I spend a lot of time prepping my brass when I first get it and then after so many shots I'll trim the necks if needed. Normally needed for the brass that doesn't have a shoulders over 35 degrees as a decent shoulder will arrest a lot of the neck growth. I anneal the necks and shoulders after every 3 firings usually, I'll deburr the flash hole on every piece of brass I have. Normally I don't loose much brass to splits i
  6. Yes sir, playing the extreme long range game has a lot of cost involve between the gun, scope, range finders and if you do any long range hunting then a spotting scope as well. The rest of the equipment isn't to bad. I was single for many years and had a good paying job is how I was able to get what I have. Once you get the expensive stuff, you pretty well have it for life though. Just replace the barrel once in a while. That's not to bad. I do have to admit that the big boomers will burn through a lot of powder pretty fast if you shoot them much. I dont shoot much anym
  7. That's not to shabby. Any gun that will put 5 shots in 1/2 MOA groups is good enough for me. That's pretty much my standard for long range hunting accuracy. It won't compete on the benchrest circuits but will lay game down way out there given you do your part right. When you consider your playground beyond 600 yards you pretty well enter into a different more advanced side of the long range game. Better range finders are required, extreme spread and standard deviation in bullet velocities must be tested and tweeked in conjuction with accuracy, match grade bullets are a must
  8. Most all my rifles have Leopold scopes on them.
  9. That's what happens when government gets to big and powerful. Our governmental elected officials supposed to work for we the people but now they see we the people as beneath them and an irritation. Big government likes to dictate and tell us what's best for us and that they know better than we do. They have made an art out of lying and deception. They stifle conservative Christians by sending them through the ringer with the IRS and such. Anyone that stands up against these established carrier demecrates and the organization's they dominate such as the IRS, NSA, and so on get
  10. At a mile I'm shooting a 338 Lapua improved with 300 grain bullets i shoot a 300 ultra mag mostly and will run it out to just shy of a mile. I shoot 210 grainers out of it Most my other rifles such as 25-06 Ackley and 6x47 Lapua I will run out to 800. All those distances are about my max practice distances. I will hunt these guns out to about 2/3rds of the distance i practice with them in most cases. None of the guns mentioned are factory rifles. At least not anymore for the ones that started out that way. My favorite caliber is the 28 cal in 7mag or 7x300win. Next time
  11. Oh man, i hate to have to call myself a Republican. I'm more along the lines of a constitutional conservative. I like republicans about as much as I do moderates, dems, and libs lol. There is no way to vet most of the refugees. Only ones I know you could vet are the Christian refugees by vetting them with their church.
  12. The puplic doesn't want them but our wonderful president wants them. He wants the fighting age men too of all things. Might not have a problem taking in the Christian refugees but NO he want the Muslim fighting age men. Our president is the biggest national freaking terrerist to our country we have ever faced. His entire administration is an obomination. Really really really hope we get a constitutional conservative in office next or we are doomed
  13. Anyone on do any long range shooting on this forum, either competition or for fun? I'm a long range guy. Never got to compete in any long range competions but do it just for personal fun. I'll shoot out to 1 mile on targets about approximately 1 MOA in size.
  14. Very nice story, thanks for putting the effort in to write it. I really enjoyed reading it and you did a very good job presenting it the way you did.
  15. That information is easy to find isn't it. Now find the rapes, murders, robberies and mass shootings that were cut short or ended in the favor of the would be victims that were carrying a concealed firearm. That's a typical left wing tactic, show the bad and never the good. How many law people carrying CCW does is say we're to blame for this? We're did most of those mass shootings occur, in gun free zones or in the major left wing dominated cities? how many of these mass shootings were cut short by a citizen with a CCW and would have been a lot worse had the citizen n

  17. Why must yall talk about CCW as if it something brand new and never tried before. Look at the US and it's history with such. How many accidents have we had involving common citizens and their concealed weapons since day one of our right to carry. Exactly! You would have to search long and hard to find one example of the fears yall have about people using their CCW in an act that wasn't warented. And I promis, any such thing would make the headlines from Texas to Alaska yet ever day only local coverage is ever given to people who have saved themselves and others with their CCW.
  18. The ground I'm on is mostly ranch land. Fairly heavily wooded with mesquite and oak trees. Some farming around which is a big attraction to the pigs. A little farther west of me and you start getting into more open country and a lot more crop feilds. I run my dogs in both places. We have lots of prickly pair cactus here. It is very thick and hard to see when the grass is tall. My stag doesn't do as good a job at avoiding it when I hunt him like a finder holder. My actual finder holder dogs do much better at avoiding it. At the end of the hunt, i set down and lay the dogs d
  19. It just kinda depends on what style suits you and you like best. For pleasure hunting big tracks of land, most prefer curs and hounds with bull dogs for catch dogs. The people that are contracted for hog removal often use the same style dogs i use. My dogs actually came from such a guy. The versatility of this style of dog is much greater than any other style that I'm aware of. They have good nose, great speed, good eyesight, and catch emediatly. This combo is extremely effective anywhere pigs are present. They are hands down the best dogs for doing crop work and catching pig
  20. Socks, you are right on. Not many people here compared to the population as a whole carry concealed firearms. What happens here is the few responsible people are allowed to carry. Most people wouldn't carry a firearm even if they could which is great. You don't need most people carrying but it's good to have the responsible people packing. Once you have been through a CCW course, you won't pull your gun unless it's life or death because of the huge legal battle you will sometimes find yourself in, in what you think would be a no brainer. When you stand in the right and u
  21. How many mass shootings in America have been ended by a citizen with a CCW? A bunch! Mainstream media doesn't make a big deal of it because they hate the idea of giving the NRA and like minded organizations and like minded people any credit but it does happen every day here. Be it stopping mass shooting from taken place or small time robbery and murder. In the mass shooting that take place and are cut short by a person with a concealed weapon, all survivors give interviews saying the body count would have been much more had it been for the individual that pulled h
  22. Maybe so in yalls countries but here in North America the concealed carry citizens are not dumb@$$'s. It's not just a license you go down and purchase and then you have the right to carry, it's a course that consists of many things. Back ground checks are done, qualifing with a pistol is done, and also what happens after you use your weapon in defense of yourself or otheres and the legal trouble you might have to battle against. The course covers when it is acceptable to use your gun in defense and when it's not. Why shouldn't your soldiers and ex soldiers, off duty police off
  23. Every major city in America that's run and ruled by liberal progressive idiology has a much higher crime rate than those that are not. Take the guns out of the hands of law abidding citizens and the only guns left are those that will kill you instead of protect you and provide for you and others. Many many more pitfalls to disarming citizens than just being able to defend yourself and others against perps but those other pitfalls are not what this thread is about. Plus hard to undo what's already been done politically.
  24. This is my stag. This dog is the one I've been letting chase rabbits This dog is my best young dog and is the one holding the pig with my stag at the beginning of this thread. She is also the one vested cooling off in the water. Don't know why some of the picture are sideway, sorry about that.
  25. Nah, catching rabbits is pretty cool. I've tried it a couple times and have gotten spanked but it sure was fun to watch.
