Breeding for pheno type is easier to comprehend but geno type is a different ball game as it takes as stated a long time to test a litter, decide which has made the grade etc , and in reality most people who are breeding a line of WORKING dogs usually inbreed line breed due to there working ability so there hedging there bets there going to get a worker not a turd . With breeding working dogs it's a gamble, Would I do a full sister brother mating , well I would if both were what I wanted and there was nothing else about in the line .

Gameover I'm not picking fault I maybe reading your post wrong but if you in breed or line breed you Are Not bringing in new genes your utilising the genes you already have and are happy with I think your confusing in breeding with outcrossing . I can't understand what you mean but it maybe getting lost in translation

The line I tried was thought out not hit and miss but I said one made the grade that's dogs for you there 5year old and none have been bred out of and most have been culled , this takes time as if entered wrong it defeats the object and you could be culling a good dog , I have a bitch of the same line which is a half bro Sister mating and this bitch is a complete different kettle of fish I have various half bro sisters uncles and aunts and one grandparent so there are plenty ways I can go but the bitch I bred didn't work out as I said that's dogs

I havnt done a sib sib breeding as there was always closely bred relations about but for working dogs I bred a father daughter mating and one bitch out of the litter was very good the rest didn't make the grade mine included , very dull to the point of being retarded no natural hunting ability or catching ability but a very big heart in a very small body . I'm not saying this is normal but out of a litter of 8 one was very good the rest I wouldn't class as mediocre it's a big shame and a Long time finding out they were shite , but that's the chance you take

yeah mate defo agree, but my understanding is if you have a nice line but would like to add that little something else to it then you would outcross then back cross(inbreed) then back on to linebreeding once the blood is diluted enough. if its not to add someting that you cant already find in a line then there is no point in my opinion because if its a trait your breed should have but doesnt then you would look for a suitble stud/bitch of the same breed that had this trait, no? iv'e had the same staffs in my familly for years, and i'm getting interested in the rabbits, i'm thinking abo

Inbreeding won't add new genes to the genepool it will top up with the same genes you already have , which in turn will hopfully double up or concentrate the traites or look you want to keep within your line . But as said can also double up on the bad traits and physical attributes you don't want

A full brother sister mating is the closest way of breeding as they carry exactly the same genes , as mentioned some could be extremely gifted in what you want some will be completely shite , prepare to cull hard! Unfortunately you have to be able to see the entire litter at a mature age grafting before you cull much patience needed. The only sib sib cross I've seen was in mastiffs physically they were ok no faults , but your breeding for work it's coMpletly different . Prepare for a smaller type and probably a bit of disappointment

There's small pockets of land I've been doing since 1995 that always held large amounts of rabbitts mixy would go through sometimes trice a year and it's stl been very productive. Also it seems the working bulls that are about are a lot smaller than the old lines from the 90s which is the type of dogs that the old lines of bull / Gray were bred from originally . And all the pet bulls round here are 22 some even 24 tts and the bullshit that follows were they come from is laughable -

I think lots of the bulls about are staffxpit and have thrown very large there's loads down my way and lots are xs which I think is why in comparison to the old lines of pit in 80s. 90 s there lacking and the proven lines are few and far between -
It's a game of chance mate the most well planned litter you breed out of two grafters could produce non workers and the only trouble is when do you give up on the dog , and do you trust people enough to rehome it or put to sleep all I know is you spend a long time finding out it's slightly soul destroying when there lacking in certain areas or out and out quit Good luck with your decision

Right rather than start a new thread , thought I'd bump this one as it's what I want to find more out about as I commented a couple years ago . Lime to know about the various grey /pointer crosses what percentage pointer is most useful and how you rate them I've seen a few and they were good stamp of dog and the boys I met left the bullxs for them your views people

Yes your right , I thought that was why you used those out x s as the original line would be very watered down as there would be 6 different families introduced which all unrelated would make it very hard to forsee would you would get. That's why I thought you were going for speed.
