  1. yeah thats what i thought burrows are much bigger, normal smoke won't shift em like rats, thats why i thought creo/mix , rabbits can't stand the stuff, never heard of anyone using smoke creo but like i say i guess creo will fire up when it gets hot enough so that got me thinking to mix it with something that can stand higher temps.
  2. Hello fella's, is anybody a member at Paul Lane ? I heard on the grape vine the club had been sold, not been for years just wondered if it was true? Thanks
  3. No pal, we are taking the old mans dog as well , it should be interesting... I will take a video if i can
  4. The yanks have rifled shotguns, but over here i am pretty sure they are banned! We get around it using what you call a 'Sabat round' but it's section 1 solid slug shooting Have you ever seen a missile fired into space, before the projectile boosts off the shell breaks away from the head? Sabat round a similar thing, and done right they are very accurate and good fun to use.
  5. The least you need to spend on a shotgun the better IMO, having one fit your reach and stance is important but you don't need to spend a fortune to have one fit you like a glove. It is important to have one fit you but don't think your going to shoot like John Wayne just because the gun fits you. Ive been shooting all my life and at the end of the day a shotgun is a steel tube that fires shot, it has no rifling (unless your in America) and it's more to do with the round and the operator knowing how to adjust to his enviroment than the fancy name badge or diamond encrusted stock. I have seen
  6. I am de-ratting a shoot soon, got the smoker ready to put together and as soon as it's done and i have a bit of time off on a weekend i will be up there, keep you posted!
  7. Yeah i am not a believer in a dog living in the house but mine has had to come in for the winter, i have built him a good kennel outdoors and he really like going in it but not while the weather is like this, he shivers if i leave him out and much prefers it by the fire with an antler haha I have grown up with Rottys (security) but with my little ones being young and rottys being so powerfull i did'nt want to get another for that reason only (great dog though) As ive got older my hobbies have changed, i'm outdoors all the time and i like hunting of all kinds, he's a great companion for me
  8. One for the Plumber owners, i've bought a Nuttall Patterdale and he's turning out to a one hell of dog, loyal, obedient, loves the kids, bites the mrs , great with other dogs, and he's a right little scrapper when he needs to be (when he see's quarry) BUT, and i find this strange, he won't kill the quarry he plays with it, runs round with it in his mouth, throws it about and when it's almost dead he just watches it and it looks like he's laughing! Is this because he is still a pup or do you think a companion would be better for him in the field? Reason i ask this is because my old
  9. Not seen one like that for a while, great catch!
  10. Been doing it all my life and sadly its not worth paying for the rod licence anymore around my parts, most of the double figure fish have gone walk about, a mate of mine had a theory they evolved , grew legs and got on a ferry to Ireland but i got a strange feeling they ended up on the table... Every Xmas without fail i could pull at least five decent doubles out of Three rivers, Warping Drain , Scunny area, but not no more, its been like it for years now, best fish i seen was by my old man 27lb at three rivers but that was 6 years ago.
  11. El Judd, taken today , he's 8 months give or take a week
  12. I get on fine with the hunter design, don't know who invented it but it works for me, I can't get on with tube cattys at all, flat gold bands work best for me, nice and fast! If your getting hand slap all the time try pointing the forks at an angle towards the target if your shooting OTF , I don't shoot TTF but some people find it better for some reason... Down to Preference i suppose
  13. It's actually a method I have used for a long time dipping creosalt in pine cones and popping them down rabbit holes, it clears the rabbits in no time but after a while the rabbits do go back . My question is has anyone tried burning creosalt in a way that would create smoke and then trying to smoke them out ? Smoke never really seemed to work with us but I've been making a rat smoker and then I got the idea of experimenting with creosalt smoke , just to see what happens... Being oil based I guess it will set on fire but then I had the idea of mixing it with brake fluid which is
  14. Great pics, I will be doing a bit soon, I have got all the bits together for the DIY rat smoker like the ones on YouTube, it''s cost me about £25 to get everything together most of the stuff I had laying around in the garage. My old man has a shoot he goes on near Barnsley and they all have bacon butties in the morning which is attracting hell of a lot of rats under the cabins , bit of luck in a couple of weeks I will,be over there with my new smoker and terrier in toe, hopefully I will get a few , keep Ya posted!
  15. I like the look of these dogs, I've just bought a Patterdale he's 8 months now and in need of a good companion , I'm seriously thinking down the plumber Terrier line...
  16. Cracking picture, he looks like mine ! Could you tell me where you got the collar from, I'm after something like that, I'm guessing it's like quick release ?? I could have done with that today , we had two squirrels , one got away because I couldn't get him off the lead quick enough...
  17. hello lads, just joined the forum, could not help but notice this post I as I have a Patterdale (Nuttall) and he's a cracking dog, 8 months old now. Pictures of your dog look spot on my friend, I see a good little red there, Gonna be a big lad too, they are very leggy at this age and then they fill out . I've just joined the forum to ask about plumber terriers because I'm thinking of getting another dog to keep mine company when we are out, mines great with my kids, fine with other dog, soft as muck with people but when he locks onto something in the woods he's a different story.
