Mackerel Fishing From The Rocks
Hunterhartley replied to walshie's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
Yeah that will do, i use my Pike rods, 12-13ft 3LB test curveUse a trace for sea fishing too, you never know what your gonna get, Gar Fish follow Mackrell all the time (look very similar with a sword fish type snout/Ugly thing), both will snap normal line with there teeth so use a trace to save you losing your gear. sorry but i dont think theres any need for wire traces when fishing for makerel and garfish lol (if thats what you meant, if not i appolagise) ive caught ALOT of makerel (as most people that go sea fishing probably have) and plenty of gars and have never once been bitten off ??? -
Any Torches Recommended ?
Hunterhartley replied to RichieRich23's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I have the cluelite , it's lasted me years, great hand held spotting torch bit it's a bit much to attach to the rifle, and you have the separate battery pack to carry round. To attach to the rifle how about the Cree , there great little torches, my old man swears by them, adjustable beem and about 1000 lumins , more than enough. They are very compact, light, easy to attach and cheap, much cheaper than Surefire etc -
I hope you supply protective equipment to your crabs, viz vest and boots are a must , if something was to fall on there claws they could get seriously injured or even worse... Are the candles Creosalt scented ?

The Mrs old man still has one, he calls him Bear and it's the biggest i have seen, he really is a big EBT, too big to show, very soft but good god does he take some holding back when he see's anything with fir haha Have you ever seen the original EBT, it was breaded out by what we have today, if you type it into wiki have a look, cracking looking dog, longer in the leg and shorter in the snout

I understand, and i am just talking off the cuff, its just an idea thats all , one i think would work if done right and i am sure i am not alone in saying Creo does clear them rabbit holes but it's a method used a long time ago that is maybe not so PC today It's not a question of being Politically Correct Not only is it ineffective, as a method, but it's also illegal. That is of course, presuming you can find somewhere prepared to sell it, and fork out £50 for a 5 gallon container..... well if it's Illegal i won't be doing it then, i always stay within the law, thanks fo

Plumber Terrier X Patterdale Terrier
Hunterhartley replied to Hunterhartley's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Thanks Pal, good advise thanks a lot, yeah he's a great dog and i will get him a partner in time but your right, he still has a way to go yet before he is fully trained. Really like the look of the plumber terriers, i will have one without a doubt but im in no rush and it's one of the reasons i joined the forum to have a good read about them. Ive been watching the Seven valley ratters on youtube , brilliant little dogs, funny to watch -

Never give up Pal, thats the sign of a natural born loser, If i can help you in any way don't be afraid to ask, thats what forums like this are for.

yeah it does work Jocky, i was told about the pine cone method in devon years ago and it worked very well, something about creo that rabbits do not like, but after a while i have known them to go back, its not a long term solution
-
Yeah its still available, i think the law changed for selling it to the public about ten years ago but it's still available to builders, farmers, etc.
-
Yes i think i will learn how to do this, it will come in handy in the long run, save a few quid too!

good start but if you get the bug its worse than flu, that will end up a twelve before long haha, good luck my friend!

Brattonsound, good as anything, others will tell you to go for something else more expensive maybe but if you look on the net in right places you can pick up a bargain. I will say one thing though, if your new to shooting get a big one, bigger the better, in time you will buy a lot of guns if you get gun disease like a lot of us did you will be glad of the space...

My friend you are a lucky man! I'd be looking at money for all seasons, Christmas trees if your living on the land to protect them, Fire wood on a mass scale, store it, dry it, and sell it to the masses. Depending on where you are how about storage? i could reel off a thousand ideas to make money from so much land and the truth is, gods not making anymore so hold onto it!

In my experience NO! not like other terriers but great dogs in there own right! They look like little pigs with teeth and i was very close to getting one just to prove my other half wrong , her family have kept them for generations right back to her great grandfather. Great dogs, love to eat other dogs, but as a hunting companion ? I would love to see somebody prove me otherwise dear stalking or ratting, rabbiting, anything... I like these dogs a lot, but there more a dog hunting dog, if your hunting other dogs then get one!!! haha

Dose Having A Fitted Shotgun Make A Difference?
Hunterhartley replied to ROB.BOB's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The least you need to spend on a shotgun the better IMO, having one fit your reach and stance is important but you don't need to spend a fortune to have one fit you like a glove. It is important to have one fit you but don't think your going to shoot like John Wayne just because the gun fits you. Ive been shooting all my life and at the end of the day a shotgun is a steel tube that fires shot, it has no rifling (unless your in America) and it's more to do with the round and the operator knowing how to adjust to his enviroment than the fancy name badge or diamond encrusted stock. I have seen h -
Plumber Terrier X Patterdale Terrier
Hunterhartley replied to Hunterhartley's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
yeah i was thinking of waiting until he is 1 at least, in the summer maybe, he's a very sharp dog but i think the best will only be brought out of him with a partner in crime, they love company -
i thought my theory was right then, yeah they seem to drop a lot with singles, im still pretty accurate with them but i was thinking double would get them out there better, how about 20-15 tapered ? seen some on ebay, £4

haha, ferrets chuff!! Brilliant, yeah thats what im about to make (Rat Smoker), i have all the parts ready to go just need to put it together. I can but try, ive been messing around with brake fluid with a touch of sun tan oil, its lethal, really thick smoke, that got me thinking introducing creo because i know how much rabbits turn there nose up at it. I have not tried it yet though, will get some creo from the car boot at the weekend.

Hello fella's new to the forum, finding my way around it nicely , can't believe there is so many of my hobbies under one roof! Got back into Catty shooting and i love my flat bands, for me they shoot very fast and i prefer them to tubes but i have never shot a double flat band and i am thinking of getting one to try out. Im shooting out to 25 yards at the moment and i am pretty accurate within 3 inches but im thinking at distances like this a double band will be better does anyone use doubles? bit of advice would be good. im using aniseed balls and M10 nuts

What Deer Calibre For First Deer Rifle.
Hunterhartley replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
6.5 55 swedish mauser is a very nice bit of kit. .308 and .243 are just too much for me, big bang, lot of heat, lot of mess, not good on them barrels after time but a lot of people like a big bang so it really is up to you at the end of the day.
