    my 1one was made to go into te boot of a car so the back was angles at the same angle as the back seat with 2 doors which opened down very easy really, treated with fence stain then after it dried I threw a few handfuls of wood shavings in for the dogs to be comfortable

    line breeding at some stage needs new blood or else it will stagnate and that's no good for improvement or evolution of the breed. So by out crossing are ya not making subtle changes to alter your original line? Which means they're taking different roads to get the similar end product? Just my thoughts

    nobody is disputing that but I think what len is saying is that before the start of every line 2 unrelated dogs were used at some stage then bred back into themselves. Obviously if you already have an established line you don't need to go outside it. Line bred Bull cross lurchers wouldn't exist for example unless someone had used 2 different types at the beginning. If someone had not had the confidence to step outside the box then the patterdale breed would never have been created. Was Frank buck and Cyril breay idiots for outcrossing from other huntpacks to unrelated dogs and different types.

    Nonsense, yes all types have other blood in their ancestory. Nobody's denying that.But to suggest that there's Border and Russell only a COUPLE of generations back in Fell lines is bullshit. I've had my line for around 8 generations and my friend who's had the line longer has had them a few generations before that. I know the couple of outcrosses I used inside out so my question is ? Did someone sneak in to my yard in the last few years with their Russell or Border stud and let it mate my bitches ?????????????? Lads who always come out with the remark that there's no one with terrier

    If you found one good terrier dog from unknown breeding that did well, and then a bitch from unknown that did well, and so bred from them. And the resulting terriers where tried and proved good, so bred from. Is that not creating a line ? My question would be where did these dogs of unknown blood come from ? If they are any good probably from well bred stock a few generations back. Unless KC registered stuff. Then you would have something out of the ordinary. They didn't walk off the Ark.isnt that how they all came about?

    your jumping on a name too , it was just an example, with us when young we used local dogs, I've seen dogs from litters that looked like a small leg smooth Russell but grizzle in colour feck knows what was in him but he was just a good worker from working parents, lines didn't matter, work mattered.

    For an example, I owned a bull Russell bitch before she was mental hard bitch, and I've dug over a border patt enough to know he was top of his game and dug over his parents enough to see why they were mated, now if I still had that bitch and access to the border patt dog I'd bred them in a heart beat as both were real good earth dogs, now they were just cross breeds but have been bred for the right reasons because of their abilities of work. But they'd just be bitsas so out of resulting pups it doesn't ave to stop there as work would be the main reason for breeding.

    hows it stupid Neil? Every line that gets out crossed is introducing new genetics to a line, now if that line is Russell's and they out cross to a patt, the resulting pups that work are then used in the breeding programme to keep the line going, but what was in the patt a few generations back or the Russell? So it the pups are used as an out cross to a lakey line then they are in no way similar to a purer breed but who's to say that they won't work or improve a line in any way? The modern day curs are just an example. Use the other breeds well known for earth work most lines have differences

    ive had a few on lures, works when they ain't taking dead baits, seem to be taking up in the water columnNice 1 len do u use surface lures at all, I've got into them last year and must say it's exciting probably not that most productive but the hits are spectacular when they comespinners and sub surface plugs mate got them about 3 foot below surface.

    not trying to reinvent anything, but who's to say a bull Russell x border lakey could not produce good working pups and if bred to something of similar breeding could you not start a line of good working dogs? Not long after they'd prob breed to type which could just be classed as a working terrier, didn't Plummer do it with his own stuff? Where did the good stuff start?     well done mate on the advice. id really reccomend the trap or s bend to stop smells. rats and gases escaping from sewers, drains. nothing worse than walking outside and getting hit with the smell of raw shite lolol. very good advice there for people
