  1. Seem happy enough this morning, my little smallholding coming together now
  2. Ginger one enjoys a back and belly scratch!
  3. Today became pig day! Started doing pen had a friend come give the posts and extra push in with machine. Then knocked up pig shelter...... then picked up 2 Tamworth X GOS weaners! Just 2 rows of barbed wire at bottom of fence at minute....hopefully get elec fence up and running tomorrow. Last thing I need is em getting out. The fun begins!!!
  4. No mate, I cancelled the 2 I had lined up because they were intact boars and I was warned off because of boar taint. I might be picking 2 up this weekend if the fella still has em by time I've sorted pig pen. The area I was guna put em on had more shite in it than I thought so I've ended up scraping it all off with machine. Plan now is to put 2 pigs on the area that will be next yesrs veg garden. Let em turn that over and fertilise it for me. The chickens and turkeys are doing well out in the run now.
  5. I am 100% in the camp of 'the issue is not the dog it's the owner'. I do agree that some dogs are more dangerous or more likely to be an issue but as illuded by a few already it's about the owner being responsible for the dogs actions and also understanding the requirement of whichever dog they get. We have a van at Bridlington and number of times see them little shitty chiuaua things on fronts that are swinging off lead going mad but it's cute/funny or he/she has an attitude. I always think if that was a Rotty behaving like that to people or other dogs they would be calling the firing s
  6. Any pig keepers/farmers with an opinion on this. Seems to polarise opinion. Some saying it is a massive issue and some saying its a myth. I think the 2 weaners I'm due to collect are still entire and just had someone warn me off getting them now!
  7. No2 Bourbon red turkey hatched today
  8. Cheers pal, it's taking some effort to get it going but enjoying it so far. The turkeys in brooder are growing double quick, out of the other 5 eggs had 1 hatch so far not sure if the others will do. Tomorrow's job is to sort the pig pen so I can collect 2 weaners this week. Then the focus will be on the vegs
  9. Back at it today got the run covered. Still a few bits to do but it'll do for now atleast the birds can get outside.
  10. That'll do. Camt belive they had it at 5/1
  11. Today is day 00 on the incubator for the 5No turkey eggs.........First one just hatched 5mins ago
  12. Been working in tunnel today, got supports up middle and framing for doors sorted.
  13. Wasn't guna do owt in garden tonight but got home a bit early from work so thought I would crack on before going to watch Rovers v Everton. Posts grinded off level and hoops put up. Ends/Doors and bit of bracing next task.
  14. Wilf do you use the plastic electric fence posts? Or do you use timber posts and the screw in insulators? Also might be daft question but does the electric fence wire just go straight into the red/black outlets or do I need another interconnecting part between? I assumed there would be 2 cables with the kit with clips on end to clip onto the wire? Can't seem to find any info on them.
  15. Looks like have to step up a few models to get the joules up. Think this might be same as yours, cheetah super. Does 7 joules. That other one was only 1 joule.
  16. Do you use the rope or tape? Not sure what the difference is.....I was guna go with double row of barbed wire at base of posts but considering elec fence instead. Just looked on cheetah website and they do a 10acre mains one for £125 Cheetah M15 | 10 Acres WWW.CHEETAHONLINE.CO.UK Product Specifications: Fence up to 10 acres or 1 mile of electric wire. 230v Mains powered. One output... We only have half acre at home so this will be oversized if anything.
  17. Got the hard part of the chicken run (future poly tunnel) done today, all posts in. Just need to trim tops off level as the scaff poles were all different lengths. Then get the hoops on. Wanted to go a bit wider but had to bring it back in to make sure kept the natural curve of the pipe. Ended up 3m wide and 8m long. Plenty big enough. Got the kids involved as always. Next job is sorting the pig pen, arranged to collect to Berkshire Black weaners next week!!!
  18. Find this section very interesting, clearly some knowledgeable fellas in this one! I've always fancied some birds like this or an aviary. Won't be anytime soon as I'm focusing on the meat birds at the minute. Can I ask a question, might be stupid, but will ask anyway.....what's on the leg rings? Is it just to identify brood? Also do you breed for selling purposes or for show or just a hobby/interest between friends? Ry
