  1. Here's a video of our latest rat hunt with my buddy's dog and mink. Here's a picture of the end of the hunt
  2. Thanks everyone! I'm glad you all have enjoyed the video! :-)
  3. I agree the terriers would have done better at catching the rats, but they aren't trained to work with mink, and would have got them too.
  4. Yes, the terriers would have been just as happy to kill the mink as they would the rats. The guy who owned them isn't into mink, and he just wanted to check it out. Normally he hunts raccoons, foxes, and badgers with his terriers, but he was curious about how we hunt with our mink. So we let him come, and tried to find a job for his dogs to do, which ended up being to patrol outside the coop with the dogs on leashes, catching any rats who tried to flee the coop. Their efforts did save us from loosing a couple rats.
  5. Here's my wife holding a couple live MUSKRATS after a hunt! Those muskrats bite a heck of a lot harder than silly little brown rats!!!
  6. ha ha ha no, but she's got a hot single sister down in Costa Rica
  7. Thanks, how did you do that? I'm not sure what I did wrong
  8. We went rat hunting for my birthday on Saturday. Here are some pictures of the hunt! Here are the two terriers that participated in the hunt. The black on on the left is a pure patterdale terrier, and the brownish black dog on the right is half game bred pit bull, half patterdale terrier. Here is my wife Maggie with my buddy Cade's minkenry dog Carl. He is 1/2 boarder collie, 1/4 catahoula leopard hound, 1/4 pharaoh hound. Cade uses him to hunt rats and rabbits along side his mink. and raccoons and wild cats by himself. This dog is almost a year old, and actually killed his first

  10. Yes, minkenry actually has more in common with falconry than it does ferreting. Because mink are wild predators, it is much easier to use training methods developed for other wild predators, than it is to try to force the mink to do things that a domestic animal will do.
  11. Kind of. Actually with the mink I do a trade. I carry ground meat in my pocket, and when the mink takes its kill to their carry box, I trade them for a hand full of pre-ground meat. Then I take what they catch home, eat it if I want, and then grind the leftover parts, or the entire animal if I don't want to eat it, and feed it to them on a future hunt. Near the end of this video, you can clearly see my wife making the trade.
  12. Hey NOW you're talking! Tracking a deer down after shooting would be a PERFECT job for a wolverine! Good luck prying him off after it's found the deer though haha That's why you wouldn't pry him off. Teach him that you are there to open the kill for him, so he doesn't get protective when you start messing with the deer, then slit the belly open and let him start feeding on the gut pile. While the wolverine is gorging on the heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys, you cut the deer up. Throwing the bony portions of the legs, and other scraps to the wolverine as so he gets to eat his fill

  14. I think a wolverine would make a cool pet, but hunting with one would be pretty lame. "Common boy, go find the dead deer!" LOL What I think would be cool, would be hunting with a fisher! Here's a big old male after being tranquilized Here's one killing a fox And here's a couple videos of smaller female fishers chasing squirrels through the tree tops!
  15. I've thought lots about trying this with other wild mustelids like weasels or martens, but I haven't tried just yet. To be honest, I'm having too much fun with the mink to want to change anything at this point!

  18. Thanks! Yeah, she sure is pretty, but those pink eyes sure are pretty weak! I've never had a mink this blind in my life! Have you had her checked by a vet for blindness ? Oh, no need to ask a vet if she's blind. She can see just fine if the object is very close. When she's all geared up, she attacks anything that moves. I'm pretty sure she does this because she can't see well enough to determine the difference between my foot and a muskrat, so she just hits whatever moves. If the muskrat is more than 10 feet out, she only responds when the animal makes a sound. She still manages t

  20. Hello everyone. I just put up a new video of my very large albino doe mink Ma'ska subduing a muskrat. This girl is literally as big or bigger than an average wild buck. She's not as quick as most of my other mink, but she's got quite the attitude, and is just now starting to get the hang of hunting muskrats. http://youtu.be/qeo5moeV254?list=UUaE309xZTS4XdecZSoaYzFg
  21. Wow, I didn't realize ferrets were so fragile! I like to use brown rats to start my young mink on. I find them to be a soft easy prey that helps get a young mink some good hunting experience, and build its confidence, before hunting larger and more aggressive prey like rock squirrels and muskrats.
  22. Oh, so you guys are saying to take the pup out after it has had its vaccinations?
  23. Excuse my ignorance, I'm a Yank. What does this mean? What are "jabs"?
