New Pointer Lurcher To Hunt With My Trained Mink!
Minkenry replied to Minkenry's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Why would you want to break your dogs from killing one of the most destructive evasive species on earth??? More animal species have been driven to extinction by house cats than by any other non human species in the world!!! Maybe because it could be some little kids pet or some elderly persons only companion ....... Well if they are foolish enough to just turn them loose to terrorize the neighborhood then they diverse to lose their cat. I don't let my mink run around killing my neighbor's chickens, neither will I allow my dog to run unsupervised where he might kill a farmer's sheep. I wouldn' -

Good to know! I was planning on waiting until after a year before messing with anything with teeth (other than little stuff like brown rats), but it's good to know foxes are better to start a pup on than cats. I have zero experience hunting foxes, so I have no idea about them. On that topic, what signs do you look for that help you know if a pup is ready to start on brown rats? Obviously a gritty terrier or bull type lurcher can be started on rats much earlier than a more sensitive dog, but how exactly do you know how sensitive or gritty your pup is without actually testing it on bitin -

New Pointer Lurcher To Hunt With My Trained Mink!

Oh yeah, that's why my buddy got the litter mate. We're going to course some jackrabbit (our local hare species), do some pest control on feral cats, and every now and then go for some fox or raccoon. If the dogs are hard enough we will probably try them on coyotes too, but that won't be a regular quarry for us by any means. My main goal for the dog outside of mink work is jackrabbit coursing and feral cat pest control. always enjoy your vids, keep them coming especially the cat ones I'm not sure what you mean by "the cat ones"........ -

Hello everyone. My name is Joseph Carter. For a couple years now I have been researching and experimenting with different dogs, trying to find the right dog to work with my trained hunting mink. I have tried various dogs over the years (owned by friends or family) in an effort to figure out just what I wanted in a minkenry dog. I have also spent a lot of time and effort trying to educate myself on the different dogs out there, so I could better understand the potential strengths and weaknesses of each breed or type of dog. After putting forth a couple years of effort, I then spent a considera -
Hey everyone! I've been researching about different lurchers, and searching for the right dog for a long time now. Last week I finally settled on a pup to work with my mink! Her name is Onsa, and she is 3/8 racing greyhound, 3/8 American staghound (from the Cherry line of coyote hunting dogs), 1/8 saluki, and 1/8 English pointer. What do you guys think of her? https://youtu.be/50X0mL7rPUk

My Daughter Olive's First Hunt With Our Mink Rio!
Minkenry replied to Minkenry's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Yeah, I'm from Utah, so way west of you. My parents live in Illinois near Chicago. I was there just last winter. I got my first mink back in 2003. This video tells the story of how I got into mink... https://youtu.be/1HOM24OX6Oo I feed meat from my mink's kills, so a mixture of muskrats, brown rats, rabbits, squirrels, kangaroo rats, etc. When I'm first training a mink I dedicate a couple hours a day, every day, for at least 2 or 3 months, usually longer. After they are trained I back off to about an hour a day to every other day, depending on how busy I am. You can get my book on -

Yeah, Weils disease is only common in really wet, humid areas. I live in a desert region. The disease is not known to be anywhere near where I live. Thanks for your concern -
My wife Maggie and I just had our first child. She's now a month old, so we decided that it was about time she went on her first hunt..... https://youtu.be/N1hy1HJTL5k

It's available on Amazon, but they charge 78 U.S. dollars. I can get you copies cheaper if you'd like. Just send me a private message if you want me to help you get the book, and we can talk about it further. -

My Story On How I Started Hunting With Mink

Who knows what happened. The same stupid thing happens to falconers every now and then too. Just last week a falconer not too far from me had his mews broken into and his bird gone. It sucks what idiot people will do! I now live in a new place, and have obviously started over with a new mink. The best I can do is just cut my losses and move on with my life. :-) -
Here's a little video telling the story of how I started training and hunting with mink.... https://youtu.be/1HOM24OX6Oo

You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed them!

Yeah, there are a BUNCH of videos out there of mink trying to steal people's fish. I think the funniest ones are when the fish is tied to a stringer, or is just to big for the mink to drag, and the mink just keeps on trying lol

Check out this compilation of intense mink fights I found on YouTube! https://youtu.be/_HQJKLk9_kc

No not at all unfortunately. But I've decided to just use her more like a ferret with aggressive stuff like muskrats. Even a coward can flush stuff, so I might as well use her for what she can do, rather than complain about what she can't do. She does pretty decent on rabbits though, and killed 2 out of the 2 rabbits we saw last weekend
