It's not illegal in every state, but where it is illegal it is because of the fear of them creating feral populations here and becoming a pest, like the American mink is for you guys. It's a stupid, irrational fear that was spread by liberals who know nothing about animals and just like to dream up laws to control the people with. If ferrets were going to create feral populations here, they already would have. We can use ferrets where I live, and I talk with the falconers who do. The problem is, our rabbits don't dig warrens, so the ferrets are only useful in junk piles, or when the rabbit tri

In this video they call a special ferreting device a "ferreting endoscope". I tried Googling "ferreting endoscope" to see what they do, and how I could buy one, but I couldn't find anything under this name. Is there another name for the device used in this video?

Ok, just thought I'd write this new topic, since the silly terrier vs mink debate is spread across multiple topics. First off, it was a silly and rather stupid debate that could never really be resolved. I unfortunately share much of the same qualities of the terrier in that I don't back down, even though I know it's pointless and a fight I know I'll never win. I still can't help but jump into a fight when the opportunity presents itself. Let it be known that I am fully aware that any decent terrier could kill even the best of mink. I've always known that, and the whole silly argument

How about this. Since this is a pointless argument, how about we both agree that both animals are amazing hunters. Terriers are far more fearless, tough, and game than any mink alive, and mink are far quicker and more efficient killers. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, and both have my respect. Whether they both have your respect is up to you, and I don't frankly care. You could hate mink and still be my friend. Our argument is pointless since there are no 5 lb working terriers, and there are no 20 lb mink. Let's call it a truce and just be friends

No dog alive could stand toe toe with a weasel, stoat, or mink of equal size. The only reason they win against mink is because they are 10 times larger. I don't get excited when my mink kills a mouse with one bit, and talk about how tough my mink is! The same goes with dogs. No dog alive could handle a mink or weasel of equal weight. And that includes pit dogs, which make terriers look like cowards. I KNOW, I've worked with both in the field. Terriers are impressive when compared to a boarder collie, but they are cowards when compared to a game bread fighting pitbull. now ive been polite

TC Yep, along with procrastination, the lack of a defined way of successfully training a mink to cache was one of the things that held me back from writing my book for a year after people started to asking me to. I have a system down now, that has been tested on multiple mink, and multiple mink trainers, so now I finally feel comfortable with presenting a mink training formula. Though I'm sure our methods will change as time goes on, we now have a method that works, and it has been proven to be duplicateable. So I finally feel confident with presenting our methods, though just a few mo

Actually, I take that back. You'd just end up with a dead mink. Mink can't take the beating a little terrier can. Mink need to be more careful than a rough and tumble terrier,

Thank you so much for your effort, and for being so thorough! It is VERY MUCH appreciated! I'm not writing the book for you guys, I'm primarily writing it for those who want to practice my sport, and secondly for those curious about it. I've had people begging me to write it for quite some time now, so now I'm finally writing it. I have no plans on explaining much of anything about YOUR ways of doing things, since I know I have very little experience in that area. I've owned a grand total of 3 ferrets, and have only minor experience hunting with them (though I get the feel

That would be a good idea if I wanted a name for myself, or wanted to be looked upon as a wise teacher. The truth is I want the sport to grow and become more advanced. I don't care who has a good idea, as long as it works. I could try to figure it all out by myself, and gain some kind of special prestige, or I can spread the word on my sport and learn from others wiser, more experienced in life, and more talented than I, who could easily pass me up in the sport. To be honest, I search for people who I think would pass me up in the sport, that way I can learn from them, instead of just usin

I get a flood of questions all the time about mink, and how I train them, and how I got started, ect ect. In the book I share the story of minkenry, because a lot of people wonder how and why I got started in mink. The story is rather short, because I got my first mink 10 years ago, and I've only trained something like 12 mink in my life, but it is interesting to read (according to those who have read it, who actually don't like animals). I also have compiled a good chunk of information on mink in nature(almost none of which is original to me, but gleaned from mink studies) to help t

YOU my friend are a very wise man! You are 100% correct! A defensive attack is night and day from a predation attack. I highly doubt there is a mink alive that could handle a game little terrier if all it plays is defense. Mink are not badgers, they don't excel at defense. Don't get me wrong, mink are pretty dang good at defense, but it really isn't one of their strengths. Their bodies are too long and thin to be much of a defensive fighter. Unlike their cousins the badgers who are thick and wide, mink are long and thin, and a larger attacker can easily wrap their jaws completely around a mink

Yeah, our weather has a lot more variation than yours. We get over 100ºF(40ºC) in the summer, and below well below 0ºF (-40ºC) in the winter.

Oh, and one last thing. Since what I do is so easy, I say you put your money where your mouth is. $250 U.S. Dollars says you can't train a mink to do what mine do. It takes me 2-3 months to train a mink, I'll double that and give you six months. Do we have a bet? No. We see them as a pest species here, and deal with them accordingly. Ive only ever posted 2/3 times on your threads.. theres a reason for that. Just out of curiosity can you tell me how your people and hunting forums have taken your sport? Also, why the need to post in the falconry section too as mink dont have wings! You

We hunt large hares with passage goshawks all the time in the states, but I do get your point. A chamber raised bird or an imprint is going to be far more brazen than a passage bird. I hunt with pure ranch mink all the time, and they still have their instincts fully intact. Though I'm sure the instincts of a pure wild mink are much sharper. its a simple matter of self preservation any injury or disadvantage( missing/broken primaries etc.) will likely lead to death in the wild, wild goshawks are in the main bird hunters of the forests, they do take small mammals but a good kick from a

Oh yeah, of course. I am fully aware that a ferret will produce more game the way you guys hunt. I've always know that. Ferreting compared to minkenry is like shooting a gun compared to flying a hawk. They don't even compare when it comes to efficiency. But why do we falconers fly our birds? It's for the sport, not for numbers. personally i did it for the challenge Yep, me too

Oh hell no, there is no mink that could kill "any terrier". That is beyond silly! I think there is a chance that a very small working terrier with average abilities could be bested by a very very VERY exceptional mink, but who knows and who cares. I know mink have their limits, and this very well might be one of them. I am a dog man myself, and have hunted with multiple breeds, terriers being one of them. I also have a friend with a working terrier we are trying to train to work with our mink. I love and respect the little dogs, and know all too well what the average terrier can do to the aver

Here's the mink in question... thiers not doubt its a impressive critter and it maybe could kill a handbag dog if it set about it...but a proper terrier? no Yeah we'll never know, and I honestly don't care to know. I would hate to see the fight, regardless of the results, as I have a lot of respect for both creatures. Terriers are marvelous, tough little dogs, and they have my love and respect, and there's no need to talk about how much I love mink, as you all know that!

I'd love to have a chat with them. They can't be any worse than some of you guys lol You haven't met a terrier man they are more game than the terrier haha I have met some terrier men, and they are men after my own heart. I'd love to chat with them! I'm on the game side myself... This is what your thumb looks like after you reach into a hole to help your mink who is fighting a muskrat, and you grab the muskrat by the head and pull him out! This is the kind chompers a muskrat has! Squirrels and wussy little brown rats don't even come close! And realize

I say you trap a mink and throw them in together. Then come and tell us who got chewed up. Mink are far from invincible. They are nervous little animals, so they must get killed by predators all the time in the wild. Also, a little terrier has no problem killing a wild buck mink. But I'm sorry, you are being quite foolish in saying any ferret can tangle with a mink. It's not a question of size. Ferrets don't have the heart, speed, or biting power, and their bodies are far too fragile. I may not be a big ferreter like you guys, but I have had 3 ferrets, and did a little hunting with them. I
