  1. Really, lets see you do it then. You go catch a mink, "train" it to run around in a muddy ditch chasing anything it sees, then get it to put what it catches in a box. Heck, I challenge you to do that with ANY non ferret! When you're done, make a video and show us what you've done. I'd bet a fair sum of money you couldn't even get a mink to let you hold it bare handed, and that's the easy part. Talks cheep buddy, let's see what you can do! Oh, and when you're done with that, lets see you train a mink to go in a chicken coop, ignore the squaking chickens, kill a rat, then dra

  3. I'll take it you didn't read my other comment yet...... Anyway, thanks for your help and advice.
  4. I'd love to have a chat with them. They can't be any worse than some of you guys lol
  5. if i was you i would be bracing myself for some shit from that comment! i know a few lads on hear myself included would love to take you up on that challange I of course will never know unless I tried, and I have no desire to try that as ether outcome would make me sad. I like tough little terriers! They are cool little dogs, and as I'm sure you know I love mink. So for me the "test" would be a loose loose. I've hunted with several different dogs, terriers included, though I wouldn't ever call myself an expert in that area, but I'm not a total novice ether. I've seen the size
  6. To be honest, I had to look up that insult, since we don't use that word over here. Thank you for helping to expand my vocabulary good sir.
  7. I appreciated your comment, as you were genuinely trying to help, and had innocently misunderstood how very little I was writing on the subject. You weren't just calling me names and telling me I'm a stupid arrogant American like some other folks on here.

  9. Yeah, actually I have a couple pages in one of my chapters that talks a little bit about different mustelids compared to mink, and I was thinking of putting up a diagram like that, but then changed my mind. Now that you bring it up again though, I think I just might do that! :-)
  10. I just learned that the first known rabbit hunt with a mink in Europe was successful! The minkener who hunted with the mink is an experienced ferreter, and she used the mink like a ferret to bolt the rabbits into nets, and then in the end had her cache in her box. I don't know anymore details than that, but it's pretty exciting for me to see minkenry spreading! :-D
  11. P.S. And let the record show that I agree WHOLE HEARTEDLY with the idea of having someone else write a chapter on ferreting for me..... that is if I wanted a chapter on ferreting in my book. The fact is, I don't want a chapter on ferreting, I just wanted to use ferrets to make a quick little example, and that's it
  12. And that's why I came here. I know that in comparison I'm down right ignorant about hunting with ferrets, as are my fellow Americans. I wouldn't have come here and asked the question if I felt like I knew everything. I have actually read EXTENSIVELY on ferrets and ferreting and the history ect ect. But I realize that just because you read something doesn't make it true. And just because you read something true, doesn't make you an expert on the subject. There's only so much you can learn from reading. Real life experience teaches you things books can't, and Vice Versa. You guys have the re
  13. Wow........... how many times to I have to explain this?!?!?!?!?!?!? This is the last time I am going to explain this I AM NOT WRITING SEVERAL CHAPTERS ON FERRETING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not writing a whole chapter on it, I'M NOT EVEN WRITING A WHOLE PAGE ON FERRETING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am writing 3 maybe 4 short paragraphs THAT IS IT!!!!!!!!!! I've explained this at least a half a dozen times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys drive me nuts!!!!!!!! You're too busy attacking me to even read what I've written!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Just so you all know, if one of you ever write a book on ferreting, and want to write a little bit in your book mentioning mink or minkenry, I will be happy to give you a few pointers if needed. I wont, however, ignore your question completely and spend the next half hour telling you how stupid you are because you're British and that you shouldn't even attempt to mention mink in your book because you are a total ignoramus on the subject, and how arrogant you are for even trying to mention my sport. So yeah, just wanted to let you know that I won't treat you the way to guys treat me. LOL :-
  15. I am not writing a chapter on ferreting. I am not even writing a whole page on the subject. I am writing 3 maybe 4 paragraphs. The point is not to really teach anyone anything about ferreting, but to make a comparison between hunting with a wild animal, and hunting with a domestic one. I wanted to use ferrets as ONE of the examples of hunting with a domestic animal, and describe the differences between what a ferret was like in the beginning (in other words what a polecat is like now) and what they have become through domestication. It is a simple and short comparison, not a chapter or chapter
  16. Your so up your own arse its unbelievable. You basically come on and asked what you should write in your book, and when you came across clueless, you got given a suggestion, a worthy one at that. Then get shirty when you didnt like the replies. Dont like feedback - dont post.. Where did I ask what I should write in my book? All I asked was if what I wrote is accurate in your opinions. No one has yet to answer my question. They instead have mocked me for asking my question and said I should write nothing at all because I'm an ignorant, arrogant, American prick. I never asked how ign
  17. So, while everyone was too busy telling me I shouldn't write 3 paragraphs in my mink book about ferrets, I found what I believe to be an answer to my original question. Here is a quote I just read off of here, if anyone reading this disagrees with anything please speak up as I would like another opinion on the matter if there is one to be had. Here is the quote.... "..,as for ferreting my true wild hob and even one of my jills can never be placed on the floor, handled yes but still being nervous of humans even after a number of years would be useless out in the field.... very rarely will y
  18. It's not about the numbers mate. If I wanted numbers I would just set a bunch of traps. I could out trap your ferrets any day :-P For me it's all about the pursuit. Your logic is like telling a falconer to get rid of his bird and get a gun. If his only goal was to kill +20 birds in a day, he would have gotten himself a gun now wouldn't he I think it's more the fact you've set it in your profile, why not just give an end of season total instead of updating it like a trophy? Come on now Henry....... Good point. It was just a common practice in one of the trapping forums I am o
  19. I agree Jai, he does post some interesting stuff, but when you're intending on writing a book about your exploits do you not think it would make sense to to stick to what you know? http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/311408-ferrets-compared-to-wild-polecats/ AMEN!!! That IS EXACTLY why I am sticking to what I know. I am writing an ENTIRE BOOK on mink! I think that with the help of you kind gents I could manage 3 paragraphs on ferrets that would be accurate enough for my purposes

  21. I did tactfully try to make a suggestion about that.... Ha ha ha, Guys, I'm not writing a ferreting book. I'm writing a book on minkenry. I very briefly compare hunting with domestic animals like dogs and ferrets to hunting with wild predators like hawks and mink. It encompasses an entire tree paragraphs, and all I was looking for was a second opinion on the differences between wild polecats and domestic ferrets. I have one person's account on the differences, and was hopping to get another. The point of the paragraphs is noting more than to show how working with wild anim
  22. LOL now THAT is just funny! LOL Would you read my posts if I had a cooler name, but my posts were boring? :-P
  23. Thanks for the thought, but this is a very small and unimportant part of my book. It's only a couple paragraphs, and the purpose is describing the differences between hunting with wild and domestic animals, not so much going into ferreting practices. So I don't think having a guest writer write me 3 or 4 paragraphs isn't really necessary. Thanks for the idea though
  24. I am aware that ferrets most likely descended from multiple types of ferrets. The point of this section was to talk about domestic vs wild animals, not describe the history of ferreting. I feel that just using the word "Polecat" without specifying what species pretty much covers my bases on both.
  25. I have absolutely no experience with polecats, and only limited experience with American ferrets. I get the strong impression that your hunting ferrets are quite a bit more quick and aggressive than our American ferrets which are bred to be nothing but pets. In writing my book I make a comparison between the original ancestor of the ferret (the polecat) and the modern hunting ferret. Being that I am rather ignorant on both subjects, I thought I better consult with the experts to make sure I'm making an accurate comparison. This is what I have written..... "The ferret was once a wild an
