  7. sometimes you have to x breed to get what your looking for. Yes.... But only to improve 'working type' not 'working ability' Is that short enough!!! y not ability?surely if you x a jack with a lakie ur improving the ability of the jack read shinyspades question above... if the ability of the jack needs improving, why are you breeding it, if you want the quality of the lakie get a lakie...
  8. I was just asking, bringing about discussion, on what made people choose the dogs they chose to cross...
  9. It was my mate who used the lakeland to put into the bedlington, and his reason for this was the head on the bedlington was snipey, coat wasnt that good either, he had seen the dog in question working, temperament, head, coat etc and decided of his own back to use this specific dog,,, (Middleton bred 'Nailer') at that time George Newcombe didnt agree with him and was loath to use a middleton bred dog. We took the pups up to George and believe it or not the man bought a pup of my mate. I don't think George actually used the bitch in question as part of his breeding plan, and possibly bought i
  10. Bosun, you're a star mate... now that's the type of answer I was looking for.. sensible direct and constructive...
  11. he worked before he showed them and at 1 point everybody had or wanted a middleton lakie.the question in hand is why x breed its to improve up to him if he wanted to make money from it.least these men have got books to there name they all proved thereselfs before hand dont see any of your books around sunbeam Sunbeam -yes i suppose i am a ray of light . Mate ,dont treat everything you read as gospel as you'll end up as deluded and self righteous as some of those that write them . never read sean frain.just stating the facts have you ever met mr middleton because im sure he would st
  12. improvement. exactly what improvement would you get by putting a russell over a pat... you have obviously never done anything in regards to breeding terriers... read to many of Frains books, by the sound of it, I was asking genuine terriermen who Have done it, not a wannabee that hasn'g got a clue, giving opinions that you just cannot substantiate... now f uck of and stick to making boilies...
  13. Right.. back to the original thread... border/russell.... russell/pat.... If you have done it, serious question.... why did you do it and what were your long term plans... ???
  14. nothing wrong with improving? improving what ffs... looks for the show ring... gave them bigger heads and stronger jaw in the show ring ... sounds good... wtf fox terriers ars the original working dog before the rest came along.considered a bit big for the job in hand so x bread with a smaller breed to make it harder if it was never done terriers wouldnt be the same today its all aboot improving HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INTO WORKING TERRIERS.. WHAT DOGS DO YOU HAVE THAT YOU HAVE DUG TO ???? how many books have you read
  15. If text talk is banned from this site, surely this dribble has to be banned as well, because I'm damned if I can understand wtf your on about.... no improvement to the lakie line was EVER gained by adding Fox Terrier into them.... EVER...

  18. What ??? explain what you think you just tried to say.. ???
  19. I'd bet you the die hard lakie men of years ago would be turning in their graves at that statement.... wasn't the fox terrier only a recent addition to add a bit of showy stuff to certain lines... If I was a border man, then I'd stick to borders.... for their traits, I wouldn't want lakie blood in it.. If I was a Pat man, then I'd be looking at good pat studs from proven lines etc, I wouldn't want Russel, border or other breeds in it... If I was a Russell man, blah blah... do you get my drift... ??? I just dont get the 'I've got a line of border/russells, or I've got a line
  20. 600 digs with a phenomenally hard dog... explain hard ...?
  21. but you wouldn't be adding to the Pat gene pool, would you ??? I wouldnt want a pat with russell blood in that's for sure ... any thoughts ???
  22. So why didnt you use a hard nuttal bred dog ??? just asking,, and making conversation... not knocking...
  23. WHY ?? What's the matter with a Pat, or a lakeland ?? Such as ???? what's the long term goal of people who do this, is there one ???\ God Knows why people do it mate. maybe for the fact there not trying to add anything there breeding honest worker to worker. and getting workinmg bred pups. i also am just estimating at this as im not sure pal? cheers So you haven't actually done it then... ???
