  1. IMO thats a load of codswalup!!!!! in 25 years i have never noticed a change in POI due to change of mag. I always zero on about 5x mag but shoot upto to 10/14x mag, I have used scopes ranging from £30.00 to £1500.00, i have even had training shooting at long distances and have never heard it mentioned. Aiming becomes a more technical thing at higher mag but thats about it as far as i am aware.
  2. That's true unless you have Expanding bullets ! As they count as your total to hold, loaded or just in the box. ATB Coldweld Not sure if that is true as when i was revoked i was allowed to keep the bullets (soft points) and cases but had to get shot of the primers or powder
  3. Ye the laws an ass as they say, there's no difference between English and Scottish roe. Have you thought about the .223, very popular round, which lies between the .222 & .22-250, loads more bullet choice off the shelf than the others. . .22 centerfire cartridges current being produced by at least one major ammo manufacturer Cartridge Muzzle Velocity (fps) Muzzle Energy (ft./lbs.) .22 Hornet 45-gr. PSP 2690 723 .218 Bee 46-gr. HP 2760 778 .221 Rem. 50-gr. AccuTip 2995 996 .222 Rem. 50-gr. AccuTip 3140 1094 .223 Rem. 55-gr. AccuTip 3240 1282 .225 Win. 55-gr. PSP 3570 1556 .2
  4. To be honest I dont think you would notice the difference between the two but yes the quicker the twist rate the heavier the bullet, I use a 1.12 and I cant use anything heavier than 55g but thats all I need. The balistics of flight that are controlled by bullet rotation are of no real importance to you and I when in the field shooting foxes, so dont get hung up over 1.8 or 1.9
  5. I take it thats a disagreement Deker ?
  6. Rimmer You are playing on words but that is fair enough.... I rise to the challenge, it's fun. OK, Firearms are not illegal. Their existence is not against the law. Obvious! I said - "There is absolutely no right whatsoever to own and use firearms, they were made illegal in 1920." I should have said - "There is absolutely no right whatsoever to own and use firearms, that was made illegal in 1920." The difference between "bear arms" and "own arms" is also obvious and not worthy of comment. You stated: "The right to own firearms is fundamental. Consequently, while i
  7. yes the barrel should be fine, the only time a 223 barrel will get shot out is on a range target shooters burn barrels out but even then i have not heard of a 223 barrel that hasnt lasted for thousands of rounds. a mod should cost around 250 for a good one its best to shop around, dont buy an old T8 they rust inside and you cant see it so aviod secondhand T8`s if you do get a second hand one go for stainless.
  8. Wow..... Sorry kev1986 but you are talking out of your bottom and I sincerely hope that novices just coming into shooting are able to see that what you say is nonsense and misleading. The .22lr and .17hmr are quite different and compliment each other. Basically the .22lr is quiet and good from 10 yards to 75 yards and the .17hmr is rather noisier but shoots brilliantly from 50 yards to 130 yards. I don't care how much you practice. They are different guns for different jobs. No way can a .22lr do the job of a .17hmr. or vice versa. There is a big overlap in capability but they both hav
  9. Slipper i very much doubt that you will shoot your barrel out, get the Sako if its in your budget it will be the best of the three. i have a sako s491 in 223 it is spot on and i mean spot on even after thousands of rounds, i also reload, you dont have to have any special arrangements or inform the police but there is now a question on the application form when you renew that asks if you reload. What model is the sako in the shop????
  10. they will more than likely want you to have a mentor for 6 months or so, i doubt if they will want to interview you again. Good move though good calibre to own the 223. i love mine.
  11. i saw that on the lib dem web site when i was doing a search, i always thought it was the case and am not sure your source is correct. Bear arms and own arms are not the same in law. the 1920 act did not make firearms illegal, you didnt read it properly. also there is a right to appeal, if you are refused or your cert withdrawn. Firearm ownership is a right not a privilege, but as you say you have to give good reason to exercise your right.
  12. Although i dont use my 223 for deer, i would never part with it as this calibre has been part of my shooting for more years than i would like to count, but i i sometimes think that a Hornet would cope with foxes when the 223 is off the menu and 22lr is just hard work, if you can understand that. i do reload so ammo is no problem. 243 is too much for my requirements and although i have fired thousands of 7.62, 308, and 9mm i must admit that i have never fired a 243, i do think that as it is just a necked down 7.62 it would be far too noisy even moderated.
  13. say you had both, "Pal", 22lr and 223 would you gat a hornet aswel, would you get rid of one and replace it with the hornet.
  14. I shoot .22lr and 223, Which i have been shooting for years in both 5.56 and 223 format. i have never considered the Hornet as an inbetween round or even a replacement for the 223. Following the on from the topic regarding the .22wmr + .17hmr mentioned in other threads,I would be very interested in hearing some views on the virtues of the Hornet in comparison to the 223.
  15. The right to own firearms is fundamental. Consequently, while it may be restricted in the case of particular individuals, within limits, it may not be removed on a collective basis. In particular, it is not a privilege to be granted or denied by governments. Thats the legal basis, taken from a political party web site.
  16. Love it.!!!!! Very reasonable questions, but suspect your on a wind up, with 188posts and a born hunter rating !!!!!!!!!!
  17. All I can say is that is quite the opposite to my own experience with the .17hmr. To have had three bad guns.... the only common denominator is you (sorry), maybe you are the problem. When you say you have seen 2 different rounds lodged in two different barrels I assume you mean your own guns. I further assume that you mean the bullet partially detonated and travelled a short way down the barrel leaving the bullet in the barrel after the shell casing was ejected. Or do you mean the casing stuck in the chamber and was difficult to eject? Without clear facts this just sounds like gossip and
  18. Fair enough and i see where you are coming from on that its more or less the style of shooting i like as much as possible. just not with a .17hmr !!!
  19. you sound like a very nervous Chief constable, more worried about looking good than protecting the civil rights of British Citizens lawfully engaged in sport shooting. Sometimes the replies to posts just don't make sense.... How many shooters have really considered the possibility of a bullet being stuck in the barrel and know how to deal with it safely? "Looking good"... what are you talking about? "protecting civil rights...." what are you smoking? I do, however, concede to the follow up post about shooting from a vehicle, that is a fair point although the sound of the gun being
  20. All very true. I started this Thread because another member suggested it, because the issue was raised in another thread started for somethng else.
