    a trevelling man stopped me years ago and said would you be selling me one of those dogs.i said my pups are never sold, thier only given.prove to me that you are genuine and i will let you have one for free.i would rather give a pup to a keen hunting man than sell it to a person who does not deserve to own it.if my dogs were not up to scatch they were very rarely .passed on

    chalkwarren .i totally agree with you cxg gsdxg labxg they are either excellent or passable get a good one and you will certainly be very happy .get a average one and you will still be able usaully to do something with it bushing gun dog etc tho i have had one or two that were not much good at anything .its like greyhounds in a litter you will have open racers mixed in with anything from A10 to A1.even top greyhounds can throw rubbish

    in bedfordshire in the seventies you would encounter the odd cwd .but now they are everywhere not just woburn park .because no one is dogging them they have become very common .in the seventies eighties a few lads were hunting them with dogs but most of them are now to old lost intrest or dont fancy prison.they can have up to 7 young at a time and can breed at 8 months of age .it is getting to the stage where you dare not let a dog off the lead for a run as there is a good chance a chink will get up .try exsplaining that to a ignorant magistrate.this i whaht happens when missinformed idiots v

    gsd xg come in to types thick set very powerful wolf like good scenting ability very good in woods good at gun work ferreting long netting .will catch a few rabitts in the lamp and a few day time but no good on daylight hares very strong build great stamina whaht i regard as a diesel type dog strong powerful but not very fast but very cunning. out of a litter of say eight you will get two to three that throw more like a well built pharaoh hound catch a few more rabitts in the lamp and daylight but not as many as lighter racier lurchers will catch hares in big open fields especially ploughing

    four months old in woodland and daylight fields also in the lamp but only with adult dogs best for them to get used to livestock and barbed wire .starting pups to late can lead to some hitting fences hard .pups at four months if they hit a fence etc wont do as much damage as a fast 9 month old pup would .also i like to make sure thaht by takeing them out early thaht thier stamina is built up and that their natural abilities are turned on early scenting bushing etc .the more earlier teaching and exspirience the better the dog will be

    i agree heavily peregnant does and newly bitrthed does should be released i have got to the stage lately of not wanting to lamp hares ever again .and if i catch a pregnant rabitt doe i just feel very guilty and a bit depressed over it .especially if she is carrying a large amount of future sport.there was one peice of woodland thaht held so many rabitts ferreting it was impossible .it was like the london tube if you put ferrets in they would come out right up the other end of the woood the warren was thaht big

    yes the dog was spider a first x gsd x g best dog i ever had got in a lot of trouble with him but if i had the chance and was young i would do it all again.do or die.thedog i lost had just been on a hare that i had in my hands that a older dog had just killed and the pup decided in his excitemeant to go running up after another i tried to call him back but he was a very willfull pup and i couldnt overide his keeness .the keeper was in my face demanding the hare i had to speed away his two sons coursed me but i was in my twenties then and very fit once i hit the hilly heavy ploughing i thoug

    up here now hardly anyone has got lurchers .whaht has done a really piece of good land of several hundred acres is a idiot who contnualy went out with his .22 and shot rabitts all year round from his landrover and just let them laying on the floor.it is very disheartening to contInually find dead shot rabitts while out and about.i must agree with you that restraint is needed on some lands and that avoiding low rabitt number areas is a very good idea .now i am a old man the urge to killl everything in sight has died down but as you know some people never mature and will allways be thoughtless

    the best excample i have seen is the one in ted walsh book lurchers and longdogs it is a classic gsd x g shape .lovely looking animal they allways remind me of heavy built pharaoh hounds

    i had two out of hancocks gsd x g one was a fawn bitch 25 ins good on rabitts very stong good stamina but was never put on a hare my brother owned her. i had a dog pup lost him 10 months old fawn dog 27 inch courseing hares at a stately home got chased by the game keepers and the police had to leg it .he was only ten months old i often wonder how fast he would have been

    in the seventies i used to walk 7 miles to woburn and carry two chinese waterdeer back .i used to walk up to wing mentmore slapton billington took me about 4 hours of very fast walking.i use to carry all of the hares and rabitts back.fitness and willpower counts.if you have fields locally which are empty do whaht i am going to do import some rabitts hares etc reseed the ground.empty land can be restocked some lads on here have good ground with plenty of stuff on i would contact them and see if they would sell you some live rabitts to reseed the ground with .like you i gave up hunting 14 years

    it is no good me moaning about lack of rabitts when i was takeing hundreds of rabitts in the seventies and eighties.ilike most on here i didnt give it a thought vast swathes of land up here is dead completely empty .which used to be teaming with hares and rabitts who is to blame ? we all are for exspecting the game to be able to handle being shot at ferreted netted and lurcherd.plus foxes plus myxy.the first thing to do is to introduce new stock net rabitts hares and reintroduce them into empty areas.there are some good grass fields where i live with good thick hedges ideal for new stock to re

    i have decided after a lot of thought thaht the only way to increase rabittt numbers in areas where they are in short supply is to go to high number areas and long net some then by mixing in new genectic stock the rabitts should make a good recovery.if you find a area with lots of rabitts netting some and dropping them down elsewhere is also doing the rabitts a good turn because a lot of the time high number areas get a lot of myxy.up where i live the reasons there are empty fields is one myxy two over shooting after myxy and three to many dog men.and four to much ferreting greed is whaht has

    if you have a lurcher which is very greyhoundy and is of greyhound construction it will not work cover.i must admit on reflection that some greyhoundy lurchers will go into cover but the kind of cover i am refering to is recently planted plantations with exstremely thick masses of bramble where muntjack preban like to lay up in . a dog with a thin greyhoundy coat would not be capable of going in to this type of cover for long. .in the open a greyhoundy lurcher will for the first few hundred yds leave a gsd x greyhound behind because thaht is whaht greyhoundy lurchers are bred for speed.but in
