Whole families born on the barge and spent their whole life on the canal - from what I read, a fabulous community spirit, but a bloody hard life I would imagine ! Yeah the grandparents were born on the water but with trains taking over the barges it all went tits up ...one of my dads sisters (aunty) is still alive and local i really should make the ef

When it came to us kids, I had the benefit of being the oldest...then my eldest sister. By the time it was my brothers turn, I reckon he was cleaner before he got in the water !

Much to the good lady's irritation, I'm also a committed skip diver.....

Down Dunstable way, there's a Transit van completely covered in black duct tape (apart from the windows, obviously !). On the back, there's a sign that says "If you can't fix it with duct tape........use more duct tape !"

When you say "dark complexion"......? Touch of the tar brush as my aunty used to say? TC My grandad used to say that ! It seems casual racism isn't what it used to be, either..... Just remembered another of my grandads sayings......if he was ever heard to 'break wind's, he'd pull a face and say "Ooh, these shoes are tight !"

Just seen this asked on TV. I'm the sort that will have a go at fixing just about anything....I'll glue it, nail it, screw it, solder it - and if all else fails, resort to duct tape and cable ties ! Example...I bought 4 knackered mountain bikes from my local tip for a tenner a few months back. I bastardised parts and, few easy repairs later, made them into one bike that I sold for 40 quid ! The good lady's step mum, however, could not be more different.... The bulb went in her microwave a while back, so she bought a new one ! I took the old one, replaced the bulb and made myself

Nothing less than he deserves. Best outcome, from a terrible situation..... End of story, for me. -
Modern laundry powders have blue dye added to them to make the whites look whiter, I remember being told it in science when we were doing theverything colour spectrum. It's the reason your white stuff glows bright blue when you're in a night club with UV lighting. Night club ? Night club ? Do you mean "disco"...?

Can you still buy the proper stuff ? Wasn't coal tar banned by the EU (yawn !)... I've seen Wright's soap on sale, but it doesn't look the same as it did ?

Those of us who are "of a certain age" will recognise one of these....

We had an outside toilet and a tin bath, hanging up outside the back door, til I was 10 or 12 years old. When my grandad died, he left my mum some money and we had an extension built, with the first bathroom in our street ! Neighbours all came round to have a look, like it was a tourist attraction !

Wife does the youngest granddaughter loves it. The eldest hates it but she is 18. TC It's probably banned by some EU directive or other......

The good Lady BB once took all the nets down to be washed. She gave them to me and said to put them in the kitchen. So, obviously, I put them in the washing machine - she went mental ! She reckons it ruins them.....warm water, with a bit of Glo White only. If I do the hoovering, washing up - anything - she does it again. Apparently, I don't "do it right". Ive given up trying to understand.

Wright's Coal Tar soap ! Used to love the smell of that !! When my daughter was little, she got a few chest infections, and we used to burn coal tar oil in a candle vaporiser thingie. The whole house smelt of it....... gorgeous ! (And I'll bet nobody washes the kids in the kitchen sink any more, either.....)

Just because I didn't doesn't mean I couldn't if I wanted to you know what I mean Uncle Albert. It celebrates the first harvest by the Pilgrim Fathers, after they landed in what is now the USA......1620 something (?) I believe it's a three day holiday and, to tidy up a loose end, Black Friday is the first retail day after the holiday, starting the shopping period leading up to Christmas.....not sure if they go the whole hog and have fist fights over a TV in Wal-Mart, though !
