  1. this is the father of the buck in velvet we shot him with a client in 2008, all our bucks are shot by foreign clients who take the heads home with them and get them measured there so we get no credit for them over here! but we have run our commercial stalking business for 16 years and most of our client's have been with us for most of that so cant complain too much!
  2. I reckon it would be close, maybe a touch on the light side.
  3. We photograph every head we shoot have done for the last 17 years (a lot of photos!) but the trouble is they are normally too big pixel wise to post and I am not great at resizing but I will try.
  4. Yeh he is clean now we culled his farther a few years ago and he was 32cm tall 7 points and weighed 630 grams a whopper! We will be after him in mid may.
  5. been watching this lad for three years and this year is his last. got a spanish client counting down the seconds!
  6. I will try and post a picture I got on one of my trail cameras he will make your eyes water!
  7. I wish some people round here took to that opinion! Any fallow gets flattened, we cover about 15,000 acres of stalking and most of that is commercial with the rest being managment ground, and we don't shoot any thing under 3 years old unless injured, I'll etc. we let our bucks grow to their prime, through managing this way we regularly shoot a lot of medal heads the biggest one last year was 920 grams and 32 cm tall a perfect symmetrical roe head stunning! But all around the boundary there are recreational stalkers and they flatten every thing that moves very frustrating!!!
  8. Try the Black Islanders the have a hard coating o er the leather to the top of the boot to protect from heather, brambles etc
  9. I have Miendle drover boots which are ok but take a bit of looking after my next set of boots will be Black Islanders great water proof boots that have a protective layer over the leather so you don't need to keep treating the leather spoke to a few people that have them and they swear by them. www.blackislander.co.uk
  10. I am a beef farmer in Scotland and for the first time ever we have a problem with liver Fluke this year, definitely linked to the crap weather, I think it might not help that it's been a sh*te year for the grass so cattle, deer etc have had to graze the grass a lot harder/lower so are picking up more worm eggs.
  11. If I were you I would head down to your local gun shop and ask to see them both (even if it's a different calibre you will get the feel of them) and see which one you prefer, you will find you like one over the other. They are both good accurate out of the box rifles. Which ever you choose you won't go wrong.
  12. I was going to say the exact same thing as Matt, try and get along with the keeper you never know he may need a hand to keep other vermin control or a hand beating etc which may get you a spot on the Cock/beaters day,
  13. A friend is looking for a jack Russell puppy he Will give it a great home he has a couple of labs and a big black Alsatian all of which are happy and healthy dogs that are worked regularly picking up and beating even the Alsatian! Don't think heirs looking to spend lots of money I think he is hoping to take one in exchange for a loving home, please don't call him a bloody freeloader!
  14. P.s if you do go second hand look on the optics page of www.guntrader.com some great bargains to be had there.
  15. I have just bought a new Ziess 3-12x50 scope for £650 and its a great scope the cross hair is in the second plain so no matter what happens it is always in focus and I think the iluminated version was only another couple hundred quid I say look no further! You also get a life time garuntee, I needed new eye pieces for a set of Ziess bino's I bought second hand and there was no quibbling they just asked for the model and my address, no serial or receipt numbers or money nice and easy they arrived in a couple of days fantastic service.
  16. I think you will probably be better looking for a better silencer rather than a differnt rifle as coldwell says there is not a huge variation in the smaller calibers such as, .243 .240, .25-06, .22-250 etc but I think they are quieter than the bigger boys such as .270, .308 , 303 etc. I suppose it comes down to if you are prepared to carry a large heavy silencer that will dramatically reduce the noise?
  17. The only complaint I have with my atec is that it screws directly onto the end of the barrel and that make my rifle 50 inches long which i don't mind as its still very well balanced but when it come to finding a slip for it I can only find monstrous things that look like they were made for a snow board or something! I know I could get one custom made but that would be pricey. What do you offer in the way of a light weight over the barrel mod? I know the lighter ones will never be as good as the bigger ones but I would rather have that than the extra weight to hump up the hills, it's quite stee
  18. I got the Irish Water Spaniel because i have wanted one for many years and couldn't find one when looking for a dog, as such I purchased other dogs so circumstances caused me not to have one, I have another dog at home and decided to get a companion for it, seen Irish Water Spaniels for sale and here I am today. I was under the impression that those who hunt would be willing to share their knowledge I'm not so sure I was right in that assertion, ps I do train my dogs in basic sit, stay, come, leash etc I wasn't looking a free ride ! I have trained differnt dogs to varying degrees of succe
  19. How do they compare with the heavy squad for sound suppression? I use an A-tec and while it is light and it does suppress the crack it is not as good as say the t8's. I would not want to hump one of the heavier moderators around the hill all day though!
  20. We were getting sweet F A for ours from our dealers so we moved to another and all of a sudden they started getting a bit more competitive not by a huge way but every little helps.
  21. i wouldn't feel bad about not spotting them first you get to learn your own ground, what lumps bumps and bushes should be there and what should not, there is a tussock of bracken on the back of our hill that always catches me out looks just like a roe lying down! good luck and happy hunting.
  22. its amazing how far they can go especially after their adrenalin kicks in! i have a little Teckel and she is great at finding deer that are wounded or just run a little, i shot a stag with my .243 the bullet didn't too to much damage but was in the right place straight through the heart and lungs it ran out of sight and fell in a huge area of waste high reeds nightmare! but i ran back to the landy grabbed the quad and dog and got back just before it got dark 20 minutes later she was stood on top of it and wouldn't let me any were near it!
  23. hi hkinsont i see what you were thinking there i made the same mistake unfortunately it is just a target round some people do use it on game but it is defiantly not advisable or ethical, i reckon your on the right track with the sst's i use them and their boat tail design gives you great accuracy out to a good long range, good luck and let me know how you get on with them.
