    looking at getting the ico tec 300 or 350 not heard a great deal about them but like the look of the price, but it is rare you get good quality for a bargain! looked at the one you could download more calls to but couldn't for the life of me find were to down load them from and the website that sells them only has one more available to down load! any opinions would be great.

    we always waste days at the end of the season could easily fit in 2 walked up days after the cock shoot but never seem to find the time so more walked up stuff is available and of coarse what was offered is not set in stone.

    my brother and I have run the shoot for the last 9 years we have done 6 years on our own and the last 3 with help from a keeper. He is no longer able to help due to private personal reasons and has only stopped as he has no choice. He always did the lions share of the feeding and rearing with the 2 of us helping to rear and get the pens ready. So i suppose the wording should be different the keeper would be doing as much as he could with my brother and i helping him where ever he needed it.     This is an unpaid position, our current part time keeper has had to stand down due to family related reasons, We are a small family shoot covering 450 acres of hill, we have 3-4 days a year around the 100 bird mark. (the usual shot ratio is around 6:1 we have some high drives!) The position will be to: Help prepare the pheasant pens help with rearing help with feeding running the beating line.     We dog in daily, and are up scratch with all vermin control, and are feeders and rides are always full, but if this keep stuff helps at leak points then it great! Not lazy as its a private shoot so all the hard work is for my own benefit!

    We feed barley mainly but clean up wheat from round the grain dryer to through in as well. Had some oats spilled in the field so bagged them up and they seemed to disappear very quick! I heard a story that the Italians through rice in and when it absorbs water it floats to the top and the ducks go quackers for it! The theory sounds ok but who can get their hands on cheap rice!

    I would get in touch with the farmer/ landowner even if it is free, and if it isn't then why not ask any way they might just let you, I often find a bottle of whisky opens a lot of doors!

    On the east coast of Scotland about 45 minutes from the cost we get in the following order: mallard, teal, wigeon. Later on in the season we get more wigeon but teal always pip them to second place never heard of much else being shot but it may well happen, at the local RSPB Reserve that we used to do the deer control on I used to see shell duck, the ocasional eider and a few tufted duck. But never shot any.

    I was going to go into bushwear at the weekend and buy the usual branded tub of bird puller with the cartoon pheasant on it, but then I wondered if there was a cheaper alternative? Does any one know we're I could get my hands on any? Or any advice on using it? I heard one guy say it works wonders on ducks?

    Bought a set of Leupold RX 600 some could write ups and a couple bad ones about quality control but they said once they got them returned and swapped they were happy so fingers crossed I get a good set!

    Looking to buy a range finder that will read to about 600 yards not to fussed about going further than that, some thing relatively slim so it fits easily into a pocket, budget is around £150 ( if it's realistic!) I have looked at a few and while they sound great I always find in the small print that thy only read deer out to about 300 yards which is no use. So does any one have one that they find works well for stalking deer? Got a new patch of ground and it's always tricky judging distance on unfamiliar ground, a lot of deer to be culled the forestry commission are doing their heads

    The ones I got from Ross were galvanised but he could probably source the plastic coated panels. But if not I could find out we're my other friend got his.

    Try Ross robertson at westro animal supplies in Brechin (Angus Scotland) he was the cheapest I could find and he is a mate so I can personally garuntee he is a good lad and not going to rip you off. Another mater just put up a wooden kennel block and he used plastic coated metal Sections and I have to say they look quite smart and were a lot cheaper I might consider them next time I need some panels.

    Thanks guys I was looking for points of view from people who had .17's and what they thought were plus and negative points for the variations of them ie hornet hmr etc So every rifle suffers from wind drift, drop etc to some extent and it's just a matter of learning the adjustment needed for each calibre but to make life easier it's nice to know which ones move the least at distance and in wind. So thanks for your points of view it helped me out a lot.

    The rifles i have access to are: A standard .22 .222 .243 .270 .275 (7x57 Mauser) I was thinking of a rim fire to save on ammo costs, I don't reload (not sure I would trust myself!) the .243 is my own and the others are owned by my dad but are all on my certificate so I can grab them when ever I need something different, I reckon if I got a .17 I would go through a hell of a lot of ammo so ammo cost is an important factor but as Charlie caller said I don't want some thing that will be put off by a bit of wind So basically I am looking for some thing with a longer reach than the .22 but

    I use a .243 it's legal on all species in Scotland and is not too big for damaging roe carcasses, and it's lethal on the todds! It's also light enough that you don't mind humping it around the hill, I have a sauer with an atec mod and ziess scope and a bipod a great setup.

    I have a picture of the 11 pointer that a client shot some were its not every ones taste but I like it, I will dig it out and try and get it up.

    Looking to get a .17 for knocking down those annoying conies, crows, magpies, jackdaws etc that sit just out of range of the .22, I have a few center fire rifles but I don't know much about the .17 what's the difference between .17 hornet, .17 hmr etc? And what's your favoured make and model?
